How is Paris at the moment?! (Holiday next week)

We have a lovely holiday planned in central Paris next week but I’m feeling a bit nervous looking at the news.

I’ve been in Paris before during unrest and it’s been easy to avoid but this is looking pretty grim. Any advice?

DH is at Le Mans Classic, driving home on Tuesday. Hopefully no trouble getting back!

*Moeben" spare a thought for teachers. It's their holiday too. In the past eg gillets jaunes, things calmed down when the holidays began after mid July.

In what world do you inhabit that makes you imagine teachers taking a party of schoolchildren abroad is a "holiday"?!

sunshinesupermum · 01/07/2023 17:35

They should cancel any school holidays it's not fair on the safety of the children and the family's at home worrying about them it is not a holiday with all the trouble that is going on you do not take chances with children's lives

I misread this as all the French children's summer holidays should be cancelled allmyliesaretrue so wind your neck in! lol

Just happen to come across a Paul Gilding tweet did you?

Twattle · 01/07/2023 23:51

I'm so happy to see people calling those videos out for what they are. I was on twitter earlier and saw the posts from the troll farms and felt so sad that this is what people are going to believe.

You guys have mad my day if that sounds bizarre.

andwen · 02/07/2023 00:53

im the same, not sure i want my grandaughter to go but school still taking them?

andwen · 02/07/2023 00:54

Are some schools still gong ahead with the problems in Paris? It looks like our school is but just wondering how many might be considering abandoning it?

My neck is perfectly fine thanks. I responded to what you posted.

Very likely now that a State of Emergency will be declared after the mob set fire to a local mayor's home (unheard of to attack local mayors) in a town just outside of Paris. So if you're still wondering whether to go, better be safe than sorry because the riots are nothing like what has gone before.

sevenbyseven · 02/07/2023 11:18

There's a lot of false information and scaremongering on this thread. It's not true the whole of Paris is under a curfew. And it's not true there's no public transport after 9pm.

I'd go ahead with the holiday OP.

OldHouseLover · 02/07/2023 11:18

We're in Paris right now & did not see any trouble last night. We're in the 5th & have teens with us. We're being careful & we were all home by 10.30pm last night.
I'm hoping things will settle down quickly

My son is going with the school next week. I generally don't watch the news so this is the first I've heard 😳

You don't watch the news? You must at least skim the headlines, surely?

You don't know who he is, but decided to give OP advice on the basis of his tweet, without bothering to find out that he's the leader of Britain First who has been convicted of hate crimes and terrorism offenses. Even though the fact that the tweet says 'back Marine Le Pen' should've given you a clue.

I agree, they are different to previous riots, this seems like civil war.

LiberteEgaliteBeyonce · 02/07/2023 12:51

For a civil war brewing, Paris was very quiet this morning.... Scaremongering much?

It will be iffy on some areas, but if you stay on the top of the news to avoid them, you should be fine.

I never heard of the man either, I will keep an eye out, as I said earlier I could not tell if I was watching old videos, videos from non French areas.

This riot does seem different going by the UK media.

I went out in London during the London riots, media reports were no way near as bad as this.

botemp · 02/07/2023 12:56

I was in Paris this past week, central Paris is probably safer than normal atm. There's extra patrol army/police out and about. The only hindrance is the limitation of public transport (there were no buses on Friday for example). Otherwise you wouldn't really know there was anything going on at all.

Yeah, I'll openly admit to being intolerant off the views and more importantly the actions of people like Paul Golding.

You do YOU then

Not everyone has to think the same

Nobody says to do. Paul Golding is free to think racist things and I'm free to think he and anyone who supports him is a cunt.

He's not free do do racist things though, hence all his time on prison.
