Do you love or hate camping?

I just read another thread where a women was saying how she didn’t like camping.
I get why some people don’t like camping but I was surprised about how many others also hate it and they way they talked about their hate for the outdoors.
My question is, am I weird for loving being outdoors amongst the dirt and leaves?
Sometimes I go out in my car and park up in the countryside just to get away on my own and for my birthday I’m actually going away for the weekend on my own camping.
am I weird or is there anyone else out there that gets me?

Love it. We go every year, but three nights is our max. We have a huge carpeted tent though, electric hook up, take duvets etc.
Some fantastic memories.

lightinthebox · 30/06/2023 18:19

Love it. But we camp part of LARP and have an emperor bell tent as part of the setup. The only thing I dislike is drying canvas tents.

Not sure if this question was for me, but will reply anyway. Ours is a Trigano Mini 290. They are imported from France and sold through Three Shires Leisure in the UK now, although we got ours last year directly from the importer. Three Shires Leisure serviced it earlier this year and they seem like a really good dealer. We love it, it was the old caravan we could find in the UK which would fit in our regular garage and has hot water and a full washroom with toilet, sink and shower. I think the basic spec for 2023 doesn't have the shower like the 2022 model. It also has a decent sized fridge, 2 ring hob and kitchen sink. The table/sofa converts to a bed and is really comfy with a mattress topper. Here are some pictures.

Thank you @Netcam yes it was.

ah so that’s why I didn’t recognise the logo. Sounds perfect for a coupe and easy storage .

Love it, we go camping most years our family and a friends family and have a blast. However I also like a nice all inclusive abroad. Ideally I like to do both once a year if funds permit. If they don't then we just go camping 😂

arghtriffid · 30/06/2023 19:25

People are very different, aren’t they! I actually disagree with him. Our house is comfortable and nice, so part of the fun of something like camping or backpacking is being jolted out of a cushy coma. Getting a hotel or Airbnb to top home would cost loads. I don’t mind going somewhere more simple, especially if it gives a real sense of place in your holiday location. Not only is the holiday a real change of pace, but it also makes coming home nice!

101jobs · 30/06/2023 19:27

I hate it!

I would honestly rather never go on holiday again than go camping.

ThePoshUns · 30/06/2023 19:28

I used to live camping but with kids it's hard bloody work. We camped every year when they were little. Them one year we went to Florida and stayed in a villa, so still self catering but oh my what a difference! Never camped again. Never will.

arghtriffid · 30/06/2023 19:28

^^Agree completely. I don't want to be a lump of dough being served. I want to feel the elements and also feel slightly uncomfortable at times but also know I could rough it if I needed to. I like a challenge and I like to keep fit physically and mentally.

arghtriffid · 30/06/2023 19:30

Sorry I was agreeing with @Wobblybobble so many posters!

StellaLaBella · 30/06/2023 04:08

To paraphrase the late, great Terry Wogan, why would I go on holiday to be less comfortable than I am at home?

Totally agree, it's utterly miserable.
BTW I love the outdoors, not sure why Op thinks it's the only way to experience it.

Diversion · 30/06/2023 19:34

Absolutely love camping and was brought up doing so. No fancy sites for us, we just need water and and elsan point, although we do use EHU for the cool box. I do not like caravans though, we have a bell tent which has far more space than a caravan. We have 4 grown up children, 2 of them love camping and the other two hate it.

Twattergy · 30/06/2023 19:34

I like it and sleep well in a tent. However since moving to the countryside I don't get such a kick out of the whole being in a field thing. That felt more rewarding when I was a city dweller. Kids love it though and it is a good way to spend quality time with friends sitting in a field drinking

BlowDryRat · 30/06/2023 19:36

I used to love camping. We have a big expensive air tent, all the gear. Then I realised about 5 years ago that I like the idea of camping but find the reality stressful, uncomfortable and hard work. We're going next weekend for the first time in 3 years, but I'd never camp for a week again.

KatharinaRosalie · 30/06/2023 19:37

I once dumped a guy I was dating because he said his ideal holiday is camping. And I love nature and love outdoors, but then I want to have a shower and comfortable bed. Why would I go somewhere less comfortable than my own house for holidays?

And yes I've seen all the threads how you just need the right equipment - you know, very expensive tent, beds, chairs, fridge, dishwasher ...why not just stay in a lovely hotel if you have to bring your entire house with you anyway to be comfortable?

KatharinaRosalie · 30/06/2023 19:39

However we do have a high inflatable bed with a mattress topper, duvet and pillows so very comfy. We also take our pizza oven, event shelter, mini fridge and about a gazillion other home comforts

see. that. so you drag the house somewhere else.

I often go on holiday to places less comfortable than home though - India, Thailand, Russia (a long time ago!) Etc.

Potu · 30/06/2023 19:40

I love camping, I wild camp a lot of weekends in summer on hikes, just love being amongst nature, I sleep so good in a tent.

Effingmagicfairy · 30/06/2023 19:42

Had great times camping for the kids, we went from tent to camper, now they’re older, we’ve sold the camper and I’m quite relieved never to have to use Campsite loo or shower ever again.

NotMeNoNo · 30/06/2023 19:43

I love camping, we have a brilliant setup that's not too OTT but comfortable. You can go to such lovely places and get away from being cooped up.
Someone else can have my unused hotel room.

BMrs · 30/06/2023 19:52

Hate camping and all the faffing but love the outdoors. Also love touring caravans but the no toilet thing in a tent, air bed etc does my head in

KatharinaRosalie · 30/06/2023 19:54

Ok fair point but I do make sure I have a decent bed and shower also in those countries.

Northernsouloldies · 30/06/2023 19:59

Camping can eff off, clean bedding, comfy bed, shower, cooked breakfast, etc all to be enjoyed in a building not a nylon cover n hard ground or a multi number bits of kit to make outside rough comfy. Camping can fuck right off. 😁

NewLeafAgain · 30/06/2023 20:02

Do not enjoy the outdoors much. Campsites are just a cheap place to sleep, shower and pack a picnic. We visit places around about and rarely hang around the site. If I could afford a hotel, I'd def do that instead!

DuesToTheDirt · 30/06/2023 20:05

Wobblybobble · 30/06/2023 17:05

I do think that if your only experience of camping is in a miserable, wet, crowded field, then fair play to you for hating it. There are better ways to camp, though. There are plenty of small sites with large pitches in beautiful locations across Europe where you would undoubtedly have a very different experience.

There's also camping in a hot, grassy field and waking up to find your hay fever is so bad your eyelids are stuck together!

Oblomov23 · 30/06/2023 20:06

Love it. Been going to our caravan in Dorset for last 16 years.
