Best trainers for hiit/gym/circuits

Posting in chat shamelessly for traffic!

It has only occurred to me today after seeing it in a tic toc video after being a gym goer and runner for several years, that my lovely hoka, squishy, running trainers are actually not really suitable for wearing for gym classes that involve standing still doing dumbbells/body weight type exercises. (I don’t really lift weights). Apparently I need a rigid soled, lightweight shoe. This could explain all my ankle and foot pain maybe?

does anyone have any recommendations, please- ideally not too expensive?

Nike metcons or reebok nano are the most common at my gym.

Most serious weightlifting people I follow on Insta wear Converse all stars! You need flat sole and no cushioning

But that’s different to doing HIIT, which usually involves running and jumping. For that I’d look for minimal trainers. I’ve got some Topo ones I wear for those sort of classes. If I’m weightlifting I tend to do it just in my socks!

Or you could go for something like Vivobarefoot

@mummyof2boys30 thank you, I will look those up

@Flockameanie yes, I’m not really a weight lifter but I do weighted circuits and hiit classes. The rapid switch between jumpy cardio and then static or single leg things makes it tricky but it was only when I saw that video today i twigged that this is possibly why I’m getting pain in my feet.

every day’s a school day, huh 🤔

I do CrossFit, the most popular/suitable shoes are Nike Metcons, Reebok Nanos and NoBulls. Some newer models are the TYR CXT-1s and RAD-Ones.

I personally wear mostly Metcons and TYRs. Nanos are good if you have a wider foot and Reebok also do good sales so you can often pick up a pair fairly cheap. Also worth checking Vinted, there's usually tons of pairs for sale on there.

@Vetoncall thank you, I just got a pair of nano on Vinted for £12!

Oh brilliant! I've found a few bargains on there.

Metcons all day.

On Cloud do a cross trainer. I didn't get on with Metcons/Dropfit and On Cloud are great, just what I wanted. I do boxercise, HIiT and pilates. I have Brookes and Asics for actual running.
