You have £100k to spend to make your life happier

Not allowed to spend it on anything sensible like paying off mortgage, debts, investing, school fees etc.

It must be spent on indulgent treats/experiences/holidays or anything else you fancy.

What would you choose?

A camper van for van life and a trip round the world

sanityisamyth · 29/06/2023 08:37

A horse and a horsebox!

Totallyconfusedperson · 29/06/2023 08:37

A move back home so we can spend more time with my parents

Flying first class to see my sister in NZ

Same, we're saving up, never been and she's lived there for 13 years, though we'll probably only manage to go Economy. And a new kitchen which we're also saving for.

Blossomtoes · 29/06/2023 08:40

Travel - India, New Zealand, Canada. And a hefty sum to my son to realise his educational aspirations.

Snailsaresweet · 29/06/2023 08:41

There are a few long-haul destinations that I'd like to visit and it would be brilliant to do so in relative comfort - India, Japan, Mexico.
A chunk of money for nice hotels - so that I could go to London, see a play and stay somewhere lovely.
Another chunk of money for a cleaner so I don't have to spend time doing something I don't enjoy.
An e-brompton!

Ohmylovejune · 29/06/2023 08:44

I won 25k last month and I'm

Giving 1/5 away to various family members
Completing an "on hold" house project 2/5
Planning a Japan holiday with 2/5

In reality I couldn't not help others in our family who are considerably less fortune health wise (and so can't work).

Undisclosedlocation · 29/06/2023 08:45

Hmmm travel I suppose, as I’m really not allowed to be sensible! Or give it to my grown up kids.
I have to say though, as I’m in the fortunate position of being old having paid the mortgage off, travelled plenty over the years, can buy what I like within reason and got savings NOTHING has ever made me as happy as achieving some financial security did!
So looking back, the thing that would make me the happiest if I hadn’t already done those things would definitely have been the ‘sensible and boring’ choices

beeskipa · 29/06/2023 08:48

Proper trauma therapy for DH (Is that too sensible???)
Convert the garage into a games room/cinema for us both with arcade machines
Holiday to Japan
Holiday to New Zealand
Whole new wardrobe
Massage every month til the money ran out
Campervan
New bathroom with giant rolltop bath for lounging
PAY A GARDENER/landscaper because doing our garden at weekends is so miserable, I want someone to come and make it nice and then I'll maintain from there

thecatsthecats · 29/06/2023 08:49

Pleeeease let me spend it on a house. Not a mortgage, just on upping our next house budget from "nice rural house" to "perfect barn conversion with lovely garden, views, and just the right location near the good stuff and transport links".

Beezknees · 29/06/2023 08:50

Travel. I want to see New Zealand, Japan, French Polynesia, Maldives. All the places I can't afford to go to.

Merrow · 29/06/2023 08:52

Multiple trips to Disneyland in Florida as my children grow

Holiday in Japan

Langdale timeshare

Pay someone to teach me how to actually garden as I've no idea how to keep the garden of this house in the (lovely) standard the gardener left it in!

An on the less selfish front, a big donation to a local charity I've relied on that's currently struggling.

Bluevelvetsofa · 29/06/2023 08:52

One new bathroom and a new bath in my bathroom.
A car of my choice
A new kitchen
Money to the family.

SleepyRooster · 29/06/2023 08:56

2-3 amazing pieces of art I can gaze at every day.

Regular weekend breaks away.

A few key charity donations.

With 100k, you'd need to spread it out carefully to get maximum benefit

70sTomboy · 29/06/2023 08:58

Campervan and holidays

IFeelSoSoSad · 29/06/2023 16:40

Fitted wardrobes in all the bedrooms
New bathroom and kitchen
A night away once a month
Eat out every week
Always having Fresh flowers in the house
All the liqueurs to make cocktails I like
Replace everything in the kitchen with le cruset, denby, Emma Bridgewater
Buy all Xmas presents from John Lewis
Throw a party
Tummy tuck
Teeth whitening for all
Spa breaks with friends

That was quick spent!

Wheredidtheselotapego · 29/06/2023 19:12

some decent therapy sessions - £2k

a Marie kondo style declutterer to come in and sort out all our rooms

weekly takeaway to break the cycle of meal planning hell

a £5k budget every year to spend on a decent holiday and a weekend away at a fancy family friendly hotel we can’t afford to stay at right now!

Farmageddon · 29/06/2023 19:16

I would retrain with a professional healthcare qualification (a 2 year masters plus living expenses in another city)

A VW Golf, plus driving lessons

A month long trip to Japan with first class flights

A few nice in office beauty treatments to perk me up after my holiday 😀

A style overhaul with a good stylist and some nice new clothes

An annual pass to a Reformer Pilates studio so I can book as many classes as I like

Not sure there would be much change from €100K for all that.
