You have £100k to spend to make your life happier

Not allowed to spend it on anything sensible like paying off mortgage, debts, investing, school fees etc.

It must be spent on indulgent treats/experiences/holidays or anything else you fancy.

What would you choose?

Spend it all on travel with the Dc. Haven’t done much in last 10yrs which was the whole point of working overseas. Urgh.

SunshinyDay1 · 29/06/2023 06:08

Sensible stuff makes me happy.

I would probably do a loft conversion,
Pay something off the mortgage... Just a little more...

Pay for private school for dd 2 and set some aside for a longer haul holiday possibly to Japan.

thefirstmrsrochester · 29/06/2023 06:30

Cosmetic dentistry
Renovate kitchen/bathroom
Travel if anything left over

Mumoftwoboysaged4and5 · 29/06/2023 06:50

Camper van all decked out with a kitchen, beds etc
tummy tuck
hot air balloon ride in Bath
a good quality and smart looking capsule wardrobe
a champagne dinner on the orient express for myself, husband and SILs and MIL
fancy bunk beds for the boys
a cox and cox chest of drawers I’ve had my eye on for months but can’t afford
a handy man
pay off remaining student loan (it’s not much but interest rates have shot up meaning I’m barely paying any off)
a yoga retreat for beginners

hattie43 · 29/06/2023 06:53

Round the world travel

Aposterhasnoname · 29/06/2023 06:54

Kitchen extension and holiday to Vietnam/Cambodia

Tara336 · 29/06/2023 07:01

A sailing boat, a camper van, a health guru to sort my fitness and diet for me and dh and I'd take DM on a cruise

MerriMarch · 29/06/2023 07:02

Shutters on the front room window.
New carpet on stairs and landing.
Loft conversion.

ThatDreamSheep · 29/06/2023 07:04

Converting the garage to a utility room and downstairs shower. Redo the kitchen and then convert the bedrooms upstairs into usable space.

Or...a one in a lifetime Australia holiday!

ThisIsACoolUserName · 29/06/2023 07:06

I would:

  • Throw a load of money at our campervan to get it into mint condition.
  • Get Invisalign to fix a couple of crooked teeth. Had a quote this week for £5k - errrm, I think I'll pass on that.
  • Go on a holiday we couldn't normally justify - like driving across the States.
  • Throw a load of money at the garden, buying some really mature statement tropical plants and trees and a garden room with a living roof.
AlanJohnsonsBeemer · 29/06/2023 07:06

Kitchen-diner knock through, driving lessons and small car, Botox and dentistry, gym membership, holiday, one of this sauna suit things that is following me round social media

sandgrown · 29/06/2023 07:08

Garden makeover, new car but nothing fancy. Downstairs toilet . Dental implants , Holidays and regular facials .

justanothermanicmonday1 · 29/06/2023 07:09

I'd gift my immediate family some money and DPs

Put some away for DC for when they're older.

Put some into savings.

Have a lovely holiday.

Deposit for a house!

LlynTegid · 29/06/2023 07:11

New kitchen and bathroom. Not sure what I'd do with the rest of the money.

musixa · 29/06/2023 07:13

Breast reduction for me, and mine and my husband's teeth fixed. Anything over would go on upgrading/replacing things (in line with your rules, obviously, things that don't actually need upgrading or replacing).

DaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisy · 29/06/2023 07:14

A hair wash every other day and manicure every 2/3 weeks for life

LadySpratt · 29/06/2023 07:15

A Steinway grand piano, although I don’t have a room big enough to put it in.

So it would be piano lessons indefinitely, holidays of a lifetime (Galapagos etc. with the more ecologically-friendly boats and experts), being able to afford to go to conferences for work (a pitiful study budget that barely covers the cost of a conference, let alone the board and travel), and doing secret good deeds.

Regular pampering for my ageing mother; she’s made so many sacrifices over the years and was widowed early, so pretty much brought me up single-handedly. Actually, a chef for her and as much comfort as I can give her. Yeah, that’s the ticket.

ThreeRingCircus · 29/06/2023 07:15

Teeth straightening.

Road trip across the USA.

Cleaner to come weekly.

Gym membership somewhere that had a pool and a sauna.

If we're allowed to include home improvements then a new bathroom.

Gettingbysomehow · 29/06/2023 07:16

The forest green car I've always wanted.
Very very expensive wallpaper I've been saving up for for ages. Costs £300 a roll.
Personal therapy so I'm not so mad.
A personal trainer.
All my food cooked for me fresh.
Cottage doors and new furniture
throughout my home.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/06/2023 07:17

New kitchen and a nice diamond for me, new record player etc for dp and as much travel as we could get out of the rest.

CheshireCats · 29/06/2023 07:17

A big garden building with a bedroom and a log burner. So I can move in to it.

DilemmaDelilah · 29/06/2023 07:22

I'm undergoing chemotherapy at the moment but after all my treatment is finished I would like a lovely relaxing holiday. Definitely a cleaner to make our lives easier. A couple of things to make my bedroom more 'ill-friendly', a taxi contract to get me to and from my appointments, regular facials etc to boost my morale, ready meals in the freezer for both of us as I never know what I'm going to be up to eating, and a big lump for my grandsons school fees. My step-daughter died of bowel cancer a few years ago and her friends set up a go fund me page for her for all the extras... I don't have lots of friends like she did and frankly do find it a bit grabby, but there are lots of little extra things to pay for and it does all add up. It would be nice to know we wouldn't have to worry about whether we could afford them!

FrogSplash · 29/06/2023 07:31

All the holidays we can't afford right now and can't see us affording for the next few years.

Disney World in the summer and a Haven/Center Parcs for February half term would be a start.

Paddingtonsmarmlade · 29/06/2023 07:37

Kitchen extension and new kitchen, new flooring for the rest of the house and a professional painter to decorate so I don't have to do it.

TheChosenTwo · 29/06/2023 07:38

Would sort our workshop/shed thing out, dh wants to put a pitched roof on it and turn the downstairs area into a games room.
holiday to Japan (ds fancies this) and a beautiful piano for dd2. Would pay for 3xPT sessions a week and a weekly massage.
