Twin birthday present etiquette

Twin boys aged 3.. birthday party coming up. My child invited.

What's the deal with presents? One between them seems a bit tight, two the same seems a bit silly but two different surely is a recipe for a big fallout?

Any outside the box ideas that isn't one of the three options above?

Eugh, it's a minefield isn't it!!

Maybe the suggestions to ask the mum are right but I know I hated that question when I had a party to organise and enough stuff on without having to come up with ideas for people as well..

I think as long as "asking the mum" is about the best approach to presents (i.e. one joint, two the same, two completely different, etc), rather than looking for specific suggestions, that would be fine.

There have been a few posters on here whose experience has been that "two the same" is the best approach but if my twins received that, one would go straight to the charity shop - they share well and rarely want to play with the same thing at the same time so no point in having two, and goodness knows we don't have the space for that. As a PP said: not all twins are the same - I wouldn't mind being asked about the best approach for mine.

My twins didn't care if they'd got a present to share or a present each.

Simple games they can play together are good (pop up pirates sort of thing) or books, if you know what they like. Simple lego sets. Or just money in a card.

When mine were invited to parties I used to buy a bigger present from both rather than two smaller ones. Even better was being told money was acceptable as no thinking involved!
