best car insurance for new teen drivers

Any advice for choice of car insurance or car to make it slightly more affordable. Thankyou

I’m interested in this as I have a learner, there was this thread recently. It’s all so expensive though!

Marmalade was cheapest for DS and a lot of his friends. Has your DC passed their test yet? You can do learner insurance which will then be transferred to full insurance once their test has been passed. I found it’s cheaper to always put me as a named driver too, I do drive his car anyway as any lifts he wants can be on his petrol!! Car wise, small like ford ka, Toyota aygo etc are cheapest, DS has a polo which was £1800 to insure.

Hastings direct were cheapest for dc1 last year with a black box. Just had renewal through and it's gone down from £2000 to £1200 this year.
