Fear of flying tips

I have a general fear of flying but now need to do a long haul trip (10 hours). Just wondering if anyone has any tips for staying as calm as possible?

My much loved uncle (who helped to raise me) moved to Florida 5 years ago and is now at end of life. I need to go and be with him.

I have no problem getting on the plane or even take off and landing, it's a fear of actually being up there. I could do with things to keep me calm for 10 hours, even things like distracting podcasts.

Plus some rational ideas and flying if you have any?

On a flight that long you will have your own tv so plenty of films/series/games to keep you occupied

following. I'm an anxious flyer and going with DS for the first time later this year, I'm dreading it and am feeling even more anxious now he's going to be along for the ride.

I'm sorry about your Uncle.

Watch how calm the airline staff are while you are up there, just going about their business. You only need to worry if they appear to!
This always works for me (fearful flyer).

Talk to the air hostess, tell them you are nervous, they have all been fantastic for me, gone above and beyond and it really helps calm me down, they often pop by to ask how I am or if I need anything.
I just did Florida in March, my first long haul in 20 years and it was so much better than I thought.

I would recommend reading Alan Carrs book on flying- it helped me!

I did Paul McKenna fear of flying, was a download that I listened to every night for 2 weeks

I was paralysed with fear prior to this and could only manage one short haul per year

Now I fly everywhere & anywhere about 9 flights per year
I much prefer long haul, less turbulence in general as the planes are bigger, lots to keep me amused and free alcohol 😂

My daughter takes Kalms, it's an over the counter mild herbal anti- anxiety medication, helps her.

I have a friend who takes Xanex for long haul. You could talk to your doctor.

Thank you eveyone, I'll look into the books and methods mentioned.

Will also get some Kalms!
