Hearing aids and tinnitus

Wondered whether anyone had any experience of using hearing aids to help with tinnitus-related hearing issues?

Have seen a specialist who confirms my tinnitus is just age-related (I’m only 45 😭). I’m trying sound therapy but with no success so far and it’s bad enough that it spoils social occasions, so keen to try anything I can to improve things.

@Whitakers I'm 57 and have Tinnitus as a result of Chemotherapy.
I had a hearing test which came out as moderate loss in both ears, the audiologist couldn't say if it was Tinnitus related but did offer hearing aids. I'm aware of Tinnitus in both ears and have said I'll think about the hearing aids.
I really notice I'm missing things in a noisy setting or if there is music on TV etc.
I know this doesn't answer your question but it's nice to know we're not alone...
What sound therapy have you tried?

I am using an app my doctor recommended- it plays noise similar to my tinnitus and the idea is that you train yourself to listen to the sound rather than the tinnitus and so habituate to it. Not making much difference though. It’s annoying and also embarrassing when I keep missing things.

What was your chemo for? I hope you’re doing better now.

@Whitakers I'll ask about the app, I'm willing to try anything!
Chemo was cervical cancer, I also had radiotherapy and brachytherapy (don't google unless you're brave 🙈)
Chemo has left me with numb feet and tinnitus, but much better than the alternative.
I hope you find a solution soon, it's not much fun, I'll end up the old granny everyone has to shout at 🤣

I've got tinnitus too (at the age of 43) and have been diagnosed with moderate hearing loss. I'm trialling some hearing aids atm but honestly they're making no difference to either the tinnitus or my hearing. It's so irritating missing parts of conversations especially in work and I'm unsure what to try next

My husband has just got hearing aids and they have made a huge difference with his tinnitus although he has only had them a couple of days but so far so good.
