I don't know. I'm a big Giles fan and I don't think trains were good when they were publicly owned.

I remember the days of British Rail. The privatised railways are by no means perfect, but they are considerably better than that.

The big problem with this, rather personal and political, programme is that Ben Elton left out many relevant factor/fact which effected/ are effecting the rail industry.These include the Covid crisis, the current rail strikes, that the term " nationalisation" is a misnomer -all in public ownership since 1994 ( except trains), there were significant notable success stories for rail franchising (eg.Virgin Trains), Labour did little to reverse franchising whilst in power, considerable effect of Scottish and Welsh devolution on rail etc,etc.He patently did not offer up any possible solution or ways forward.Plus media will quote him without checking actual facts of his quotes.
