Some beautiful wisdom from DD(8)

Sports day today and DD is not good at sports. She likes tap dancing, but running is not her thing. I've been preparing her for the inevitable last place and bless her, she was dead last in every race by half the course. Then she fell in the sack race.

She said this morning, "I know I won't win but I can have a good try. I'm good at lots of other things so it's just good to take part."

My heart is breaking but I'm so proud of her attitude to life. I don't really have anyone to share with irl so I thought MN would like it.

Beautiful. What a lovely attitude to have. Hope she’s feeling okay tonight

That is so lovely. Flowers

That is wonderful. What a star you have there.

Made me think of that incredible shot putter who ran the hurdles knowing she would lose, but wanted her team to get the points.
Girls can do anything.

She sounds more emotionally mature than many adults. I'd be proud of her too.

HeathenPlayingHouse · 26/06/2023 13:41

Love this, she sounds like such a positive little star ❤️

I'll be making a real fuss of her tonight. I wasn't good at games and used to pull abdolute wobblers at her age. She seems to have it all worked out.

I'm going to try track down that shot put story. So lovely.

Aw good for her, she sounds lovely. Really great attitude x

What an absolute star! I hope she's had a lovely day. As PP have said, more mature than lots of adults. Life is about the journey after all.

What a fab girl you are raising. So refreshing to read this and see her great attitude rather than the whingy 'shall I just pull my child out' threads.

ohtowinthelottery · 26/06/2023 16:59

You're clearly doing well at parenting. What a lovely attitude your DD has.

My DS was rubbish at sport and was always reluctant to take part in sports day. But he was excellent at spelling and maths so I told him that sports day was a chance for those who are sporty to shine and that those for whom spelling and times tables were a struggle still had to do their best in weekly tests so he needed to just do his best too.

Swirllightshade · 26/06/2023 17:07

I'll make sure we read that article in bed tonight. I'm super proud that she did it, I must admit that I gave her the option of pulling out and it was all her idea. Like PP, she is good at other things and rightly gets a lot of praise for those things, at running she is noticeably a long way behind her peers. It took real guts to get up and do it.

She is a winner! This type of attitude is winning at life.

What a superstar!
