Birthday Party

I have a special birthday coming up and after major surgery I have decided I want to take some friends and family out for a special meal, however my husband has three siblings, and I only want to invite one sibling and partner, as I haven’t seen one of his siblings for 2 years, and the other we don’t have much to do with, and we have not been invited to there celebrations (hen dos, and other parties). Do you think I am being unreasonable, as my husband thinks we should invite them all. There is a limited on numbers. Thanks

Would it be possible for you arrange a nice meal and invite the people YOU want.

And your husband can organise his own meal in your honour for the siblings?

Is the sibling you want to invite one of your favourite people?

Thank you for your messages.
I get on really well with one of his siblings and their partner, and we see them a lot, and go away with them, so I would ideally like to invite them however it may just be better to invite them all over for a bbq near my birthday and then no one is left out!

I’d stick with the plan of inviting the sibling you really like, it is your birthday.
Your DH can invite who he likes when it’s his birthday.

If the one sibling is local, or if they are nearer your age, or if they share interests etc, so you generally see them regularly and socialise with them but not the others, then it is fine.

If none of that applies and you just like one more than the others, that is more awkward.
