What does your hallway look like? Pics please!

I need to redecorate our hallway and I'm totally uninspired. At the moment there's a few mismatched photo frames DH likes (that I'm thinking of moving up the stairs so they're still technically in the hallway and can be enjoyed) and a big mirror that's more "me".

I need some inspiration.

Mine is mist plain off white with wood panelling and a neutral blind in check pattern

I have a unit with a lamp and a wicker basket and shoe storage (IKEA)

it’s bright and clutter free

AssertiveGertrude · 25/06/2023 21:47

just Not mist

ThePastKnocks · 25/06/2023 21:56

My aim is clutter free! I'm thinking of getting an IKEA shelving unit with the boxes that the family can just chuck their shoes in. Bought a lovely shoe rack and they just chuck them on the floor for everyone to break their necks coming in or down the stairs. Hopefully if I'm not asking them to line them up nicely they can chuck them in a box.

I'm thinking panelling of some sort and can't work out what colour pattern I'd like.

I don't have one. The door opens into the living room.

CarolDunne · 25/06/2023 21:59

I bought a kallax unit for the hall everyone had their own box for shoes, gloves, scrafts and bags etc

Everyone just drops them in front of it 😐

lorn195 · 25/06/2023 22:08

We got one of these for the hallway from IKEA. It's amazing stores 16 pairs of shoes and has a drawer for keys etc.

Our hallway is minimalist, white with some pictures, not much else. So easy to keep clean and tidy.

@CarolDunne I won't hold my breath then! Sad

@lorn195 I wish I could have a white washed hallway. I'd be painting it constantly. I'm hoping to go with a pop of colour that's wipe clean to detract/get rid of kid sized finger marks.

We currently have what seems to be a very pale mist coat and every time I wipe it, it just leaves a wet looking mark on the wall and takes off some paint.

@lorn195 what's the unit called though? Even though I'm not sure I'd trust my kids near the keys, I might be able to hide other bits in there.

Our hall is pretty small but here it is anyway

@ThePastKnocks it's called the HEMNES shoe cabinet and it's still in stock at our local IKEA. Its an absolute godsend especially as DS16 and I have multiple shoes/trainers already stored in there. 😊

It took DH multiple coats of white paint on the walls to getting it finished, plus he put up a chrome bannister, funky light switches (black) and some lovely railway posters (old style) to get it perfect. We still need to finish the top of the stairs, but currently debating how to do this.

mrsfeatherbottom · 25/06/2023 22:55

We have a row of ikea shoe units that we painted the same colour as the woodwork in our hall and they are great. I love the colour of the walls. I can't remember what it is but if you're interested, I'll see if I can find it.

You can't see the lights very well in the picture but they are vintage orange glass that a friend was getting rid of when she moved into a new house and these were in the kitchen. The floorboards are mahogany that were in another room in the house when we bought it. They badly need sanding and revarnishing.

@MistyGreenAndBlue That is a colour I'd looked at before, what's the name of the paint?

Your hallway is lovely and open @mrsfeatherbottom. Is it a blue or green? I'd like to have a look at it on the wall. Mine is between yours and Misty's hallway size I imagine. I've dreamt of getting a radiator cover similar so the aesthetic would look a bit like the shoe cabinet on the side. Good idea to have a couple together!

I've been eyeing this up- minus the table as my DC would hurl straight into it everyday.

Ours is Farrow and Ball Oval Room Blue (well, a colour match of it!)

It was a few years ago but it was wickes own emulsion in Fern.

Ours is very much a work in progress (flooring to finish, skirting to go on, paint touched up, socket changed etc) so there's dust everywhere, but here's a couple of pics. Paint is F&B Inchyra Blue.

Thanks for the colours! I'm going to acquire some testers this week.

@LibertyLily That is right up my DH's street, I love the mirror and plant pot! I don't think having things freestanding apart from maybe a ceiling hung plant, mirror on the wall and photos up the stairs would work with the kids as they're young.

You know those shoe cabinets? Do you reckon you'd fit chunky walking shoes in them?

Rummikub · 26/06/2023 23:28

You could take out the divider.

i checked this in IKEA.

Rummikub · 26/06/2023 23:29

In the trones ones I’d say yes.

LibertyLily · 27/06/2023 15:50

Thank you @ThePastKnocks!

Regarding the ikea shoe storage @CurlyhairedAssassin , we have a pair of the Stall ones elsewhere in the house and DH fits fairly chunky boots in them.

WaterIris · 27/06/2023 16:04

We have the IKEA shoe cabinet plus drawer - it's brilliant. The bottom level is quite wide and can fit boots etc. I have a pair of walking boots and DH has his DMs in there.

The little shallow drawer at the top is brilliant for keeping all of the hallway clutter out of sight (especially keys).

I agree. My boots are in the bottom alongside DS16 trainers. So much easier and tidier than a normal shoe rack

CurlyhairedAssassin · 03/07/2023 23:12

Ooh thanks for the feedback, think I’ll get one for our porch. All the stuff is just out on a rack but it looks so untidy.
