Bella Italia camping on Lake Garda, has anyone been?

We had our honeymoon in Lake Garda and would love to go back with our dc (5 and 7). I remember walking past the campsite and seeing all the families having a great time.

It seems quite reasonable... are there any catches? Worth it?

We went last year and really enjoyed especially given how reasonable it is
price wise. We’re going again and have booked directly both times as we wanted an apartment rather than a lodge.

The on-site restaurants are ok but we used to walk into pescheria for dinner most nights as the town is beautiful with lots of good restaurants.

It was our first experience of an overseas camp (we’d only done hotels before) so don’t have much to compare it to.

Is there anything specific you’d like to know?

I’ve not been, we went to one nearby (in our own van but was still Eurocamp). Think it’s just massive! Was too big for us - wants to feel safe enough/small enough to send 8 year old to shop by themselves etc. which is what swung us to a smaller site
would also recommend garaland to visit if there - has splash parks to cool down and kids loved it

Do you have to bring anything or is everything kitted out?
e.g. cleaning products, kitchen equipment.

I was hoping to just walk to the shops and we wouldn't need to drive.

You can rent bedding for a few which is what we did as we flew to Verona, same with bath towels but you need to bring (or buy) pool/ beach towels.

They have a small stock of cleaning products but we bought a few bits in the shop too, I will probably just pack a cloth/ dish sponge when we go again.

We chose an apartment right at the end of the site which has a pool outside it that pretty much only the people with apartments surrounding it or the nearest lodges/ cabins so it was lovely and quiet but a 10 minute walk to the on site shop. The shop itself was good and very well stocked but expensive compared to Lidl which is a 15 minute walk away- we didn’t bother with this last time but will next time.

If you can make it work, the last week in august is a good time to go as lots of European kids are already back to school so everything is quieter especially the theme parks/ water parks.

The apartments are called Ibisco and are good for being able to get away from the hustle and bustle if that’s more your thing.

Will definitely take a cloth/sponge and hire the bedding. We've got microfibre beach towels so they'll do.

Are the lodges / apartments air conditioned?

We went a few years ago and loved it. Been to quite a few campsites over the years and this was one of the best ones. Nice walk along the lake to Pescheria too.

We’ve been twice, once when the girls were 2&4 and once when they were 6&8. We chose it because we didn’t have to hire a car.

First time stayed with Eurocamp but were disappointed with the caravans, second time went with suncamp who had newer vans. Best vans we saw were Human Travel (who we then used at another site).

We loved it, wouldn’t go back because we feel we’ve “done it” but highly recommend it. Gardaland is great, too (although hot!).

If you can, book accomodation owned by the campsite. We always do this as the mobile homes owned by the campsites are usually nicer, cleaner and sometimes cheaper than Eurocamp etc. We look online at Eurocamp, Canvas etc then when we find a campsite we like we go on their own website to look at what they have to offer.

We went with Eurocamp - you can definitely do it without a car. The supermarket on site is pretty big and you can walk into the town or they do a little train thing in the evenings. Have fun!
