Just heard that some accountants in the UK are on 100k a year
I would ask family and friends but unfortunately my parents are in academia and have little clue what accountants actually do and my friends are in other sectors

DH is an accountant in the NHS… definitely not the same level of pay that posters on here are mentioning!

I’m CIMA qualified and an FC at a charity with a £10m turnover - only earning £50k FTE (I’m 4 days a week). Where am I going wrong?!

I'm similar to you. 5 years post qualifying. Making me rethink my plan

Loads. Most. I worked for a very small Surrey accounting firm a couple of years ago and they were all on £80k minimum.

The charity I work for really struggles to recruit finance people because they pay is so bad. Don't think we've had a head of finance for over 18 months now. While I'm an accountant, I don't actually work in the finance function at all (thankfully)

OH is Partner at local firm on £130k plus bonus. Taken him 15 years to get there though.

This image shows that there's no region in England where a chief financial officer is paid less than £100k on average. This comes from REED via the icaew salary survey in 2021

I’m chartered and earn nowhere near this! North of England though and nice working hours.

Some pretty outdated information on this thread!

Big4 directors earn well in excess of £100k. One can reach £100k incl. bonus by Manager grade, which is 2-3 years post qualification. Senior Managers who are 4-5 years post qualification are on £120k+ all in straight away.

There can be 60-hour weeks depending on specialism, but it’s certainly not all the time.

ClairParavel · 08/09/2023 06:56

I'm in industry, a "Head of" role in a tax specialism, and on £100k FTE (I'm part time)., Excluding bonus, which would add on another 40kish FTE. I work more than my contracted hours but not insane at all. I suspect if I'd stayed in Big 4 I'd be on more - either as an experienced SM or maybe I'd have gone for director - but other reasons make me stay in industry! I'm about 13 years PQE but I've meandered along my way!

Blackblueandgold · 08/09/2023 13:27

All 'heads of' in my place of work are on at least £90k, many are on £120k. They all work mostly standard 8-5 hours unless we're in a really busy period.

FunnysInLaJardin · 08/09/2023 13:28

Big 4 who never see their families. Like law

Endlesssummerof76 · 08/09/2023 13:33

My accountant based in Cheshire is on well over 100k - she always moans how badly paid she is compared to us though!!
