Year 6 Leavers - help me plan!

Workyticket · 25/06/2023 10:37

I've volunteered (been lumbered with) planning the Y6 Leavers do

I've got the following booked and £160 left to spend

  • disco company (all inclusive UV bash, ganes, candy floss, mocktail Station)
  • a balloon arch
  • food delivered by a local pizza place

I still need to buy:
Plates
Cups
water bottles

One from me, some suggestions for the extra money (from other parents)
  • sweet cones
  • a selfie area with dress up bits
  • a keyring with the school logo
  • decorations

I've never organised anything like this before and other parents are vague!

I KNOW that this is all a bit "extra" parents have paid £10 per child. Every year the kids have a do but this is the first time I've had a child involved

Is the party at the school? Can you use their plates and cups to save a few ££

mindutopia · 25/06/2023 10:47

I personally would bin the balloon arch. They’re expensive, likely to get popped, no one will care.

I like the selfie area assuming enough will have phones/parents with phones to take a photo.

What food do you have planned? I think something sweet (donuts/cake?), but sweet cones are quite expensive and I don’t think most 11 ish year olds would prefer them over something else that’s better value.

I would scrounge the props for the selfie area from other people. Put a call out on school whatsapps and local fb groups for silly hats/glasses/jackets/cloaks. Ask if anyone has a Polaroid you can borrow. Then spend the rest on polaroid film which is pricey.

Most y6 have their own phones so they can take their own pictures.

For sweets get little paper bags and a few bowls of cheap sweets, charge extra for them maybe? 50p? Pic n mix is more fun than cones.

GeorgeSpeaks · 25/06/2023 10:50

Don't buy water bottles, school plastic cups with tap water are fine.

GeorgeSpeaks · 25/06/2023 10:51

So spend 60 quid on sweets and 100 on keyrings? How many do you need?

TeenDivided · 25/06/2023 10:54

Keyring won't get used, waste of money.

Selfie area with props.

Home made Banner saying 'XYZ School leavers 2023'

Any money left over, donate to PTA or give back to parents.

Sounds great so far, our school did similar, balloons, light up dance floor, Polaroid section (you can get cheap accessories in Amazon and someone will have a Polaroid camera just need the film). You have food, just buy some sweets fizzy juice etc. Get a banner. A nice thought that cost nothing was they made a slideshow of pics of the kids in school from nursery and it played on a loop on the wall and the kids loved it

Workyticket · 25/06/2023 11:25

Selfie station was my preference 🤩 fairly sure I can do it cheaply or free of people have stuff we can use

Totally agree about the keyrings not being bothered about

LOVE the pics on a loop thing - powerpoint maybe??

The disco is in a local church hall. School are a bit crap and haven't organised anything (yet, they're ALWAYS last minute!)
