Best way to get from LHR to Horsham.

I am flying into LHR for the first time in a few years, and am going to Horsham. My friend can't pick me up, so am looking at public transportation.
What is the best way to get there? I am sure a taxi would be crazy expensive, is Uber an option? Anything else? I am travelling with 2 dcs, and will have 3 suitcases and hand luggage. Thanks

with kids and that much luggage, public transport is going to be a nightmare. I would get a taxi. Our cheapest options have always been through twelve transfers

There’s a National Express bus that does this journey. Link
Or Heathrow - Paddington - Victoria - Gatwick. - Horsham. H to P is Heathrow express, V to G Gatwick express and G to Horsham is probably best by taxi.

Taxi from Heathrow all the way is best prebooked. Would probably set you back at least £120.

I’m sure flying to Gatwick isn’t an option or you’d already be doing it!

grabbygravy · 25/06/2023 10:29

But I add if you prebook it is probably the best option

I would get a taxi to Victoria and then the train to Horsham.

You would have to do the maths with the fares but it might be cheaper to get the Heathrow-Gatwick bus (national express) to gatwick then get a taxi from gatwick to horsham. It wouldn't be too much longer or inconvenient.

I wouldn't want to go through London.

StillWantingADog · 25/06/2023 10:32

Would def not go via london with kids
bus to gatwick then a taxi is likely a good option

thebigcheeselover · 25/06/2023 10:36

Just get a taxi.. why make it a problem

Clymene · 25/06/2023 10:38

I'd get the transfer bus to Gatwick and then a taxi

LemonLimeWater · 25/06/2023 10:41

Thanks for all the replies. The bus to Gatwick and then taxi, would probably be the best option. Thanks

Just to add, isn't it cheaper and better now to do Heathrow to Paddington on the Elizabeth Line?

Smallinthesmoke · 25/06/2023 10:44

I would sit on the Piccadilly line to London Kings X, pop upstairs to St Pancras (there are lifts) and then from there there are direct trains to Horsham every half hour. You could even sit on the Piccadilly line for a few more stops and change at Finsbury Park for a simpler interchange.
I think many people will think you should avoid going into London. It depends really if you can wrangle the kids and luggage and don't mind it taking quite a long time. But that only involves one change and will be a cheaper option. I am also putting it out there as my DC vomit in cars and coaches but sit happily on long train and tube rides.

How old are the kids? I recently took the train to Gatwick with a giant piece of luggage and a carry on and it was surprisingly easy.

If kids can be in charge of their own suitcases, I would investigate train.

And actually- the coach was twice as expensive with awful schedules.

I'd get the X26 bus to Sutton. It's a TfL bus so will only cost £2 pp or whatever the current fare is. It's an express bus so just stops at a dozen or do places.

tfl.gov.uk/bus/route/x26/?direction=inbound

The Sutton bus stop is 5 mins from the train station which has direct to Horsham

Pressed send too soon. Have used the x26 loads to and from sutton to LHR. Plenty of spaces /racks for suitcases buggies etc
