Can't decide whether to cancel my membership

I'm a member of a Reformer Pilates studio. I pay £100 a month for unlimited classes.

I do enjoy it but the issue is that I'm not really able to attend very much while DC have school holidays, which is fine for half terms etc. but a not great for the six week break.

It's also a twenty minute drive each way from home. Which adds another 40 minutes to the hour long class.

I currently go 2/3 times a week but find it's eating up a lot of time, especially when I can do an online class at home easily.

The final thing that's making me wonder whether to cancel is that the classes are very mixed ability. So there is very little progression from the basics as the instructors don't want newbies to feel left behind. The only option to progress is to take private classes at the cost of £100 for two hours 😵‍💫

The only reason I have cancelled already is because I got a good deal. I pay £100 for unlimited classes. The new package available is £130 for 20 classes a month or something similar to that.

Help! I'm so undecided!

I'd cancel the subscription. Go on to YouTube and make my own Pilates playlist and do it at home.

I’d cancel.

Thank you!!! I think I will. I just didn't want to lose a good few, but if I'm not able to use it it's a waste really

Are there alternatives in your area? Near me there’s a tiny Pilates studio, with the machines as well as studio space, so you get close attention.

The larger gym chains have classes too.

Could you just pay when you turn up, only go once a week instead?

Puravida23 · 24/06/2023 08:57

I guess it depends if you think you will rejoin or not.
If it is just a temporary blip that you can’t go but will be back in September . I would suck up the cost.
If the love for the classes has gone though I would cancel and fine something else in September (or something that might work for both you and the kids in the school holidays)

If you’re going to go back after the holidays, it’s worth asking if they can freeze it for you over the summer?

Although you said you get unlimited for the current price, you don’t attend more than 20 classes each month so the cap wouldn’t really affect you.

IglesiasPiggl · 24/06/2023 08:59

I would cancel and give online classes a try. Home workouts cut out all the travel time, which I think makes things a lot more do-able.

We don't have many alternatives nearby, and the ones we do are more expensive.

Its membership only so no PAYG. All attendees have to be registered 24 hours in advance.

I do love it, but the lack of progression is quite annoying. It's becoming quite samey. No new moves etc

Another reason for thinking of cancelling is that we're buying some home exercise equipment next month, and I've just signed up to the Joe Wickes app. Which seems more like it would fit in to my life easier
