How on earth do I put screens up?

Talk to me about screens for sliding windows!

I’ve spent an hour Googling and still can’t really figure it out.

My flat has (ugly) 1980s sliding aluminium windows. It’s an upstairs flat, actually a maisonette) and gets quite warm in summer. I want to open the windows. We have cats though and don’t want them to fall out.

You would think that screens would be the answer but I can’t for the life of me figure out where to buy/order screens for sliding windows, or even how they work!

How do they work and where do you order them? Please help 🙏🏾

Go on Amazon and search for magnetic screens

I haven’t got sliding windows but I think https://www.flatcats.co.uk/ screens could work - I’ve got them, they do them to customised sizes & they stick to window frames with Velcro.

Thank you both! I was hoping to find something more robust, but I think Flat Cats could be good in a pinch. I honestly don’t know why I can’t Google it. Perhaps sliding windows are far less common than I thought.

@EmpressaurusOfCats does the velcro sticker on the frames not come loose when you pull the screen off? I mean, presumably you wouldn’t recommend if they weren’t any good, but that’s the part that worries me 😅

Not so far! Obviously I close all the windows if I’m out, but my last foster cat was a hefty 5kg Houdini who liked to stand on his back legs & try to pull the Velcro off because he’d seen me doing it. He couldn’t.

They’re also really easy to put up by yourself.

It’s a sale! I’m in the EU so will have to pay import duties and whatnot but I’m going to run around taking measurements this weekend. I really have to do something asap, this place has been unbearably hot lately.

I was really glad I got mine up before the hot weather kicked in! Good luck.

Did you have any trouble contacting them @EmpressaurusOfCats ? I’ve tried via email and also via their contact form, but no response 😢

Am trying to find other options but feel a bit stuck really.

I tried a magnetic screen but it wouldn’t be safe for an upstairs window. If my cat leaned against it he would just fall out.

I just went onto their site & placed my order, then the receipt & confirmation came through.

Although come to think of it, once I’d received the screens I emailed to check something & never heard back Hmm. I worked it out for myself so didn’t bother chasing.
