DH was diasgnosed with underactive thyroid a fortnight ago & put on medication. He also has cholesterol level 5.2 & they found fatty deposits on his liver.
He was referred for ultrasounds on both his thyroid & liver which he had this morning. Should we be very worried? Will he be OK? He's stomach is also very swollen. He's 40.

Has he had blood tests and what do they say? I have been put on thyroxine, and also have high cholesterol at 6, so am on satins and it’s coming down. My liver function tests are ok though

i thought fatty liver can be reversed via diet. Best to try and not worry and just wait for results

@Tinkerbyebye yes he's been put on thyroid medication, I'm not sure of the name & his cholesterol was 5.2 & they put him on short term medication but the doctor thinks it could be thyroid related & the cholestral tablets are temporary..

He had the ultrasound on his thyroid & liver yesterday.
His stomach has been terribly swollen of late. He's not a big drinker at all.

@Tinkerbyebye sorry it was the blood tests that revealed the underactive thyroid, the doctor said his thyroid is producing very little hormones & his cholestral was 5.2.. Then he had more bloods done which showed fatty deposits on his liver.. They referred for ultrasounds on thyroid & liver which he had yesterday..

He'll be fine...there are drugs to manage the thyroid and more drugs to manage cholesterol.

I take both and manage fine.....just don't shake me!

LadyAtNumber9 · 24/06/2023 13:41

That cholesterol level isn't THAT high. Mine was 7 something and I brought it down without medication quickly to about 4-5 and falling. It's the swollen tummy that's concerning.
No one on here can really advise to be honest OP. Just sit tight and concentrate on healthy fun living.

Moonandstarzz · 24/06/2023 13:58

@LadyAtNumber9 the blood tests showed fatty deposits on the liver hence the liver ultrasound yesterday... He's worried it's something worse...

Hey, I have under active thyroid and just maintained by levothyroxine taken daily. Mum had fatty liver and reversed through diet and has been successful. Try not to worry until you know more specifics if you can. Fingers crossed it goes well
