Help - dog sitting and dog has eaten a tablet

We are looking after my brother's dog for the weekend. I know nothing about dogs and am hating it so far. Despite my best efforts to remove everything dodgy from sight, I am pretty sure he (the dog, not my brother) has eaten a turmeric tablet.

Google says turmeric is OK for dogs but what about the plastic casing it was in? I am also worried about the dose. He is a small/medium dog and probably had about 600mg.

Please advise me!

Ok not a vet but dogs eat all sorts of crap he'll probably poop out the casing if he can't digest it, and I just did a quick google and there are turmeric supplements for dogs on sale for 500mg. I'm sure he'll be fine. Things to look out for - extreme lethargy, drooling, vomiting, trembling.

He'll be fine - dogs take tumeric as a supplement all the time.

Phew! I have been so careful and can't believe I missed this. Going to ring the vet just in case.

There will be recommended dosage suggestions online. Do you know how much he weighs? Or are there scales on the home you could use? Look up what the dose is for his weight to get a better idea of how much he’s had.

Regarding the capsule, it will say on the box what it’s made off and you can look up online whether that’s safe for dogs too. I’d be surprised if it’s harmful.

@garlictwist it might be worth it for peace of mind.
Turmeric is a supplement used for dogs, I'm not sure on dosage though.

How big is the dog? I'm sure it will be fine. I used to give mine turmeric paste every day

Apparently 15 to 20mg per lb weight of dog is ok. So is the dog around 30lb in weight?

That’s the default when they’ve eaten supplements etc - if you know roughly what ddog weighs and can find similar dosage supplements online then I reckon you’re fine. they may have a stomach upset from the casing but the turmeric itself shouldn’t be toxic

Vets would say that. If you can get turmeric supplements for dogs as a pp said then don't waste £40

I caught mine eating some disgusting stuff from a bin the other day. Some dogs eat other dogs shit

The turmeric tablet will be fine

I have no idea what the dog weighs. I only own a small pair of kitchen scales and can't get him on them or to cooperate. Small dog though. Not tiny like a lapdog but small enough to lift up into my arms and carry if I needed to. I am guessing about 10-15kg but that's a massive estimate.

Please don't worry, dog will be absolutely 100% fine. I give mine turmeric for her arthritis.

Joint supplement if they have mobility issues. It's also a thing for horses 😂

I agree I am totally unsuitable! I know nothing about dogs. I was trying to do a nice thing as my brother is in hospital and so no one else to help at this late stage. DH gets home tomorrow morning and I can't wait to defer to him. It's so much responsibility.
