Im really hoping someone is going to be able to help me with this.
my now ex partner set up my iPhone years ago and I’ve never thought anything of it since. We have been split for about 4 months now and for the first 3 months he was lying about there being another woman. As we share children I had daily messages and WhatsApp messages from him. I have now noticed that somehow all of these messages have disappeared and it’s like I’ve only been messaging him since June. As he would have known my iCloud account password is there anyway that he could have deleted these messages and how do I get them back? I really need them back for a court case and im assuming this is why they have disappeared. Does anyone know if this is possible and how I go about getting them back?
thank you

He could possibly access your texts from iCloud but not your WhatsApp

sadtoday1 · 23/06/2023 21:31

You can access WhatsApp from a pc or laptop. It mirrors the messages on your phone.

yogasaurus · 23/06/2023 21:31

What is your issue, is it the lying that there was another woman? As him having a new partner/affair will not have any bearing in court with regards to divorce.

As PP said, having access to your iCloud will not affect WhatsApp

sadtoday1 · 23/06/2023 21:32

I do this for my work mobile

Whenwillthisshitend · 23/06/2023 21:40

yogasaurus - the messages prove that he didn’t contact his kids for months and that he uses bullying and manipulation tactics.
i also just don’t like the fact that he has obviously gone onto my account and read things.

how do I access WhatsApp but not using the app?

No idea, but you can set WhatsApp messages to disappear after a set amount of time. He could have set this from his own phone without logging into yours

Whenwillthisshitend · 23/06/2023 21:58

No he’s definitely deleted certain messages. Also if he has deleted them from his phone should they delete off my phone?

Yes, he can set his messages to disappear from your phone

mrsneate · 23/06/2023 22:04

There is often an option to delete messages for everyone. Always take screen shots.

I would personally back up phone,

Wipe phone and get a new number, there's always a chance he could get back in,

My ex worked in data recovery and as soon as he was out the door I changed all passwords and set up new accounts for everything!

PonkyPonky · 23/06/2023 22:29

Restore your phone from a backup dated before they all disappeared. That will restore the iMessages I think but not the whatsapp

Yesiamtiredactually · 23/06/2023 23:10

WhatsApp backs up to iCloud now, it’s a tricky one to work out how exactly it’s happened but I feel like it’s not impossible at all

Downtherefordancing · 23/06/2023 23:42

WhatsApp is linked to the phone number. You can access WhatsApp on a laptop but it will send a code to the phone that you need to enter on the laptop.

Check your WhatsApp settings. Is it set to backup chats to the cloud? If not then messages will disappear after a set period.

If he has your Apple account login he may see iMessages so I would change that password. Is it linked to your email address? Because that’s where the password reset will go.

I would change all your passwords :)

imessages can be set to delete messages older than 3 months ago. So say he messaged you in Jan, then not until June you may only see the June messages

Whenwillthisshitend · 24/06/2023 07:10

Thank you all

Might be worth going to an Apple shop and getting help from an Apple genius
