Missed counselling session

I feel awful. I had a counselling session booked over the phone at 8pm today, but I have missed it by accidentally falling asleep. I’m struggling to sleep as part of the issue I’m dealing with, so had been awake most of the night. Anyway my counsellor has a policy of not being able to rebook if a session is missed and it’s supposed to be my final session today so I doubt another session can be booked in. Would you bother sending the counsellor an email or just leave it?

I would email. You have nothing to lose.

Oh definitely contact her. She'll be wondering what happened. You might or might not be offered a session, but it's good to let her know.

I don’t know how to word saying I fell asleep, it sounds like such a silly excuse!

I'm so sorry, I know it sounds daft, but I fell asleep.
You're only human. It's fine.

If it helps you to feel better, my partner's counsellor once missed a session because they had fallen asleep after having a bad night. I'd email them and explain what had happened. You've got nothing to lose.

I've done this before, midday too, oops, I just let her know and we rescheduled. I figured I'd told her things that were much much more embarrassing. We both laugh about it now.

Email. And just be honest. They won’t mind.
