Old school pay as you go mobiles

I want to get an old school pay as you go mobile sim. Any ideas where I can get one?

I want it for a spare phone so if vodafone goes down or I lose my actual mobile I’ve got it (I’m disabled and I keep my phone within reach at all times rather than have a pendant alarm).

All the so called pay as you go deals now are pay so much for a bundle that lasts a month type things. I want to stick a tenner on it every few months if that.

I can see that Three do it but it also looks like they’re merging with vodafone and I wanted to be on a different network

Try Giffgaff - https://www.giffgaff.com/ - order a sim from them which should come in a day or 2, then register on the website and put some credit on PAYG. Use it as required. Its on O2 so reasonable coverage (although probably not quite as good as Vodafone), what I like about Giffgaff is that they will email if you dont use it for a certain time and there is a risk that the number will lapse.

Was going to suggest Asda but think they are now on Vodafone network.

Anywhere, they all do them: tesco, vodafone etc etc. Ive been pay as you go forever. I choose when to pay my bill and how much, not some company

AnotherDayAnotherUsernameForMeAgain · 23/06/2023 22:26

EE can do this.

I have payg. I bought the mobile outright from argos and the sim from asda. I can top it up via their app, or laptop.

I've very recently bought my DD an old school brick style phone from Amazon for about £20 and got her a Giffgaff sim for £6 a month. Very basic but does the job

Argos .

I use 1p mobile for this. Top up £10 every few months.

I wanted an emergency phone for the car.

Giffgaff are great (run on O2 network)
I have automatic topup on mine but you don't have to. I've not had a contract since my first phone 25 years ago. I have their £10 goody bags but you can just do a basic top up as required.
