Just that really. What song do you want to be remembered/known for?

We played I am Somebody by Glenn Jones at my Dad's it was his favourite song and he used to tell me to listen to the lyrics on a bad day. If you're having a bad day, try it 😊

Isseywith3witchycats · 23/06/2023 14:49

highway to hell acdc

meikyo · 23/06/2023 14:55

Gee, That Was Fun or All That, both by Sparks

MrsMillhouse · 23/06/2023 14:55

My auntie had “the only way is up” as her song. We all burst out laughing. She was definately going to heaven.

i would like “closer”by Travis or take care by beach house

also, exitude by the killers (very short)…
”Aggressively we all defend the role we play
Regrettably time's come to send you on your way
We've seen it all bonfires of trust flash floods of pain
It doesn't really matter, don't you worry, it'll all work out
No, it doesn't even matter, don't you worry 'bout what it's all about
We hope you enjoyed your stay
It's good to have you with us, even if it's just for the day
We hope you enjoyed your stay
Outside the sun is shining, seems like heaven ain't far away
It's good to have you with us
Even if it's just for the day
It's good to have you with us even, if it's just for the day
Outside the sun is shining, seems like heaven ain't far away
It's good to have you with us even, if it's just for the day
Outside the sun is shining, seems like heaven ain't far away
(Seems like heaven ain't far away)

Either:

Golden Slumbers seguing into Here Comes the Sun by The Beatles

or

Both Sides Now by Joni Mitchell

I fluctuate between the two.

I had cancer a couple of years ago and planned the whole thing - including a speech from me to be read out. 😂

Beeswood · 23/06/2023 14:57

Claude Debussy, Clair de Lune.

mirages08 · 23/06/2023 14:58

Goin' back by dusty Springfield

whirlyhead · 23/06/2023 14:59

I will be following David Bowie's lead and not have a funeral as I hate them and don't see the point of them.

I've just told my other half to chuck my ashes in the sea then go down the pub with a few people if he wants but as I would be dead, I don't really care.

Otherwise it would be Bowie's "Where are we now" (bit of a fan)

OngoingConfidence · 23/06/2023 15:06

Highway to Hell by ACDC or Survivor by Destiny's child.

Creepyrosemary · 23/06/2023 15:11

Forget the last song, I want someone to dress as the grim reaper and come a little late and stand a little too far away, staring. Grin

But in earnest: my daughter gets the last say in everything. I can name a few things that I like, like always look on the bright side of life or canon in d but in the end I want her to be happy with it. I'll be past caring anyway.

Babdoc · 23/06/2023 15:14

As a Christian, I will be having a church funeral, which means traditional hymns, not pop songs.
I have chosen:
“The Day Thou Gavest, Lord is Ended”, “Just as I am, without one plea” and
“In Heavenly Love Abiding”.
That last one ends with the line “My saviour has my treasure, and he will
walk with me.”
My treasure is my lovely husband, who died young, 31 years ago, and my dearest wish is to see him again and walk with him in heaven.

As I go behind the curtain at the crematorium - Tina Turner's Steamy Windows.
'Steamy windows, coming from the body heat...'

Amazing Grace, on bagpipes - a beautiful hymn, and a reference to Star Trek (Scotty plays it at Spock’s funeral).

My dad's worst option! 😆 He hates that song and can't stand bagpipes!

Im going for cremation rather than burial, and want (I’m a) firestarter by the prodigy. Horrify those who have no humour, hopefully get a chuckle from those who know me well.

I think we have the same idea!

bigPileOfDough · 23/06/2023 15:35

I am also going to dance to it at my wedding. I recommend listening to it and ignoring the band's aesthetics because it is a beautiful song.

Can you hear me say your name, forever,
can you see me longing for you, forever?
Would you let me touch your soul, forever,
can you feel me longing for you, forever, and ever?

I know the light grows darker down below,
but in your eyes, it's gone before you know,
Is this the moment of just letting go? She said,
If you have Life Eternal...

Ghost - Life Eternal (Lyrics)

Last funeral I went to was planned by the deceased with eclectic music choices throughout including Eulogy by Frank Turner which got some laughs, and Bob Marley which had everyone singing and dancing.

Last funeral I planned managed to reduce an entire row of burly blokes to tears as I'd unknowingly chosen the song that the deceased played to close his DJ set every friday night. The burly blokes were the club bouncers who were were there for that close of set.

I've been to far too many funerals where Whitney Houstons I will always love you has been played and I think I'm traumatised as a result!

Blossomtoes · 23/06/2023 15:37

I’ve left my son a longish list to choose from, with the instruction to surprise me. We’ve already agreed on Pink Floyd’s Grantchester Meadows for the reflective bit, I hope they laugh when the insect gets flattened right at the end.
