Where to go away in UK with this criteria?

I'm being "forced " to use up some holiday at work. So mid July I'm taking 4/5 days off and have following criteria.
I must be able to park outside hotel/b&b (free)
I must be able to then stroll (I'm lazy) to nice shops , cafes, etc
Don't want it to be a romantic couple type of place ... just split up so feeling grouchy
Must have private bathroom, bonus points for bath & a shower
Ideally no more than two hours from London, M25 SE.
Sadly my budget is only around £100 per night.
Love to hear any recommendations

Oxford? Cambridge? Cheltenham? Bath?

Mbop · 23/06/2023 09:58

Not sure how far Stratford upon Avon would be.

I would have thought your hotel criteria are all do-able in most places.

In addition to suggestions above how about Canterbury? Southsea? Chichester? Salisbury? Lewes?

TheDutchHouse · 23/06/2023 10:49

Not Stratford or Canterbury, both nice but been there.
It's the being able to park in the accommodation then stroll down the town, village etc I'd rather not get public transport nor drive once there. The idea is to chill out, eat, read and window shop 😊

Cheltenham?
Oxford?

Sea air always helps me feel better so I suggest anywhere on the coast. Broadstairs could be a good place for you to visit.

Eastbourne?

Tittyhill · 23/06/2023 15:46

Winchester

Whataretheodds · 23/06/2023 15:46

Cambridge is 2h30 but would otherwise fit your criteria.

Eastbourne? Folkestone? Quite artsy now.

Suggest checking out rooms in pubs/stay in a pub for the accommodation- there are bound to be places in nice villages that meet your spec.

If I were you, I'd use the £500 to treat myself in London. Or get the train to York, 2hrs from Kings Cross. Leave the car at home

Strozzi palace in Cheltenham is fab. No people, it’s all done remotely and almost in centre of Cheltenham! It used to have free access to a gym/pool about 2 mins walk away too

TheGirlWhoLived · 23/06/2023 15:52

You get a whole mini apartment so lots of room and some rooms have different facilities like a claw foot bath etc

Bristol would be a lovely place to tick most of your boxes. Parking is challenging at a lot of places though - you could get the train though? There's plenty to do in/around the city. Walking, open space, Clifton, city centre, nice buildings...

You probably couldn't get a hotel - although maybe you could if midweek - but an air BnB in Clifton would be fab - so many lovely cafes for breakfast!

Have a look at Neptune Apartments in Cheltenham, right on the Promenade - amazing place!
