My daughter who is 8 in 6 weeks has read through all of the Jacqueline Wilson books which are age appropriate (not many, haha!) and has read through the Roald Dahl collection. Needing some new recommendations to keep her going please!

Another vote for the Adventure Island series. Also the Marsh Road Mysteries series and Tom Gates.

My 7yo loves:
Pamela Butchart
Enid Blyton: faraway tree, secret seven and naughtiest girl in the school series
Harry Potter (although I have to define many words for her)

Well Harry Potter is an obvious suggestion (would say first 4 books only at this age). My 8 yo DS went on to enjoy the Atticus Claw series, How to train your dragon series, David Walliams etc.

Sorry I hadn't seen your post, wasn't being rude about your suggestion of HP!

I've just finished reading Skandar and the Unicorn Thief to my DD and we both loved it. It's a cross of Harry Potter and Hunger Games. She's a pretty good reader for her age and did try it on her own but she was struggling a bit so I read it to her. It's a trilogy so we're going to read the second one next.
She also likes diary of a wimpy kid, Tom Gates, also Ben Miller has some good ones that she has enjoyed (I try to avoid 'celebrity' authors but I didn't mind them)
