Can any Londoners explain this charge?

Went to London for the day yesterday. Took the Tube from Finchley Road to Southwark. Swiped my contactless card at both ends.
Then used the Tube from Holborn to King's Cross/ St Pancras.

On my online banking, there is a transaction for £6.40 and then another for £9.10. I didn't use the buses and walked everywhere. Any idea?
Thanks

What time did you first swipe in?

Toddlerteaplease · 21/06/2023 23:03

Must have been about 11am

Could it be card clash? Maybe the machine registered the wrong card and didn't properly swipe out of one of the journeys?

I got the final tube to King's Cross around 7.30pm

Did you use your physical card and then one on your phone for the second journey?

If you use the same card you should only get 1 charge which will be capped.

Now I think about it. I think I had issues at one gate with my watch. So maybe did it twice. But I understood that all journeys come under one transaction.

I once tapped out twice by accident and got charged twice rather than the max amount for a day. If you register your card in the TfL site then you can see your transactions (retrospectively too) and if overcharged you let them know and they refund .

I do t think so, but when the watch didn't work. I can't remember if I got the card out or sent through a different gate.

Sent too soon - you have definitely overpaid by a few pounds as tgink the max is £14 something

MajesticWhine · 21/06/2023 23:10

Yeah I think you've overpaid.
You can apply for a refund.

Definitely contact TfL and they will compensate you. It was your watch that was the problem

FireflyJar · 21/06/2023 23:43

If you had used the contactless card both times, it would have been capped.

According to the journey history. It's the Finchly Road to Southwark that's the issue. Remind me not to use my watch again! I think I have to wait 48 hours to see if it's automatically refunded then cab claim.
