Future (now) disappointment

This may be a thread for those of us of "ahem" a certain age, but is anybody else disappointed by the future that was promised to us in the 1970s?

All agog, we watched Raymond Baxter on Tomorrow's World promising us that by the year 2000 (unimaginably far into in the future), we'd be wearing silver space suits (flattering and non iron), driving floating cars and only having to work 2 days a week. We would also be able to imbibe all necessary proteins, vitamins and amino acids in one easy tablet per day.

So how come I still have to wash, shop, cook, drive, buy clothes and think about food? (Though I haven't ironed anything since the last wedding I went to in 2014).

I'm feeling hard done by. Anybody else?

Yeah, but on the other hand I watched Logan’s Run in the 70’s, and I’m (way) over 30 and not dead yet.
swings and roundabouts.

Remember the movie "Back to the Future". Huge disappointment!!

The Jetsons was set in 2062. We’ve got 19 years until we get our flying cars and Rosie the Resentful Robot. I totally need a Rosie.

Yep - and to add the stuff you were told at school regarding what would exist in the future and how life would be, plus if you paid taxes and NI then pensions and health care would be taken care of for you. Ie did your duty towards government and country and they would look after you.

At least the prediction that bread would cost over £10 per loaf hasn’t yet materialised, so there that….

Only 19 years?! You must be a time traveller yourself, back from 2043.
George Jetson was 40 in the show, so that means he was born last year.
