Milestones

Hi, I've really tried to be relaxed about milestones, I know that every child hits these at different times so am really trying not to be PFB about it.

HOWEVER our 12 month old is not pulling himself up yet. Doesn't even look close. He still commando crawls too. He occasionally will go onto all fours while playing but then just slides down onto his tummy again with his knees pointing outwards.

Have anyone else's babies done this? Want to know if there's a way we can encourage or help him

It's difficult isn't it when other babies are doing it and yours is not.

Will he stand if you hold his hands?

Yeah I've really tried to be chilled about it but he seems frustrated in his inability to do what he wants.

No he won't. I can put him in a stand and he will stay standing if I support his hood/waist and I can put him against things (water table/pouffe etc) where he can stand without support but he just can't pull himself at all!

Hood was meant to be hips!

I think in that case then I'd ring the HV and ask her to do the 12 month check. You can fill in the 12 month Ages & Stages and give it to her to score.

If you can't get her to respond I would go to the GP and get them to check his hips.

Mine isn't either @showmethegin. She's 11.5 months and isn't even crawling yet, let alone pulling up. We have our 12 month check tomorrow, so will see what the HV says.
fWIW, many people have told me stories about their babies or babies they know that haven't done things on time, and have turned into healthy, active adults. It's so hard not to worry and not to compare!

My daughter is 17 months and is not long walking! She crawled after she walked. She is running about mad now and is fine so try not to worry.

Yeah isn't it! I don't know why this one thing has bothered me!

He starts nursery in a couple of weeks so I'm wondering whether that will aid his development. On the other side he is constantly trying to talk and has around 5/6 words he uses regularly which a lot of babies the same age that we know that are moving more don't. Do wonder if he is more focused on speech than movement?

I'd love to know if there's anything I could do to help him. Our sofas are quite high so I'm wondering if this is making it harder!
