I went to my first gig in years yesterday and thought I would start a lighthearted thread about crap that should be banned from gigs and concerts.

My first suggestion is mahoosive cowboy hats on anyone over 6ft tall!!

Don't book a seat if you want to stand up!!!!

THIS! Why on earth would you book a seat when you want to stand?

shrodingersvaccine · 21/06/2023 17:31

Those men who insist on protecting their precious flower of a girlfriend in the mad front rows.

If your girlfriend cant cope with the front row/pit, move back to where it's calmer. Don't stand with your arms locked in a rigid circle around her, elbowing/hitting anyone who comes near. The WHOLE CROWD is moving in one direction, I cannot stop them and she needs to move with us or gtfo.

That very top tier at the O2, nobody should be allowed to stand in that section under any circumstances even to boogie because its too scary!

I wasn't even there but I was enraged to read that the Kaiser Chiefs played the O2 in November and the lead singer was drunk. Can you even imagine how much people would have paid to see a that old drunk trash his own songs?

The evening start time, would love a matinee performance for a gig, I’d go to a lot more gigs for sure!

Love this idea but I suspect we're alone 😂

James Blunt.

You win 🤣

Nitgel · 21/06/2023 17:48

phones 100 percent and people just standing and not at least swaying slightly :D

Worldgonecrazy · 21/06/2023 17:50

People who don’t dance. (some venues don’t have standing areas so all those saying ‘don’t buy seats’ must have limited venue experience)
People who film the whole gig so they can never watch it again.
People who hold conversations about what they did last Friday the entire time.
Weird guys who stand motionless at the front and stare at the artist without blinking for the entire 90 minutes.
Drunken ladies grabbing my husband’s arse.
Drunks who think that getting one finger on the barrier entitles them to elbow you out of the way so they can grab the spot you have held all day.
Tall people (but not my husband - he is allowed to be at the front with me)
Men in original T shirts that used to fit them, just to show they were at the band’s first tour 40 years ago.

People standing/dancing in a seated area

Its a concert not a funeral.

you must be a right laugh at concerts.

Smoky1107 · 21/06/2023 17:55

People filming!

LlynTegid · 21/06/2023 18:22

James Blunt.

He'd be well down the list, at least he can play an instrument and has a sense of humour.

ThatsACoolShirt · 21/06/2023 18:28

Leave James Blunt alone! 😅 I’ve seen him live a couple of times and he’s very good and very funny. We met him briefly and he was very sweet with everyone.

The only thing that annoys me at concerts is people that do silly shit when they’re drunk. We went to a concert where some bloke threw beer at the singer. Concert stopped, I think the man was removed by security. Dickhead.

heartsinvisiblefury · 21/06/2023 19:02

@CeriB82 and you must be very annoying

I went, with my 11 year old, to the O2 earlier this year. Purposefully bought tickets for the back row, specifically so said 11 year old could grove and fidget to his heart’s content. The empty row to ourselves was a massive lifesaver! We were offered seats further toward the front by staff, but politely explained the need to jam, and the bloke was ace and told us to enjoy.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 21/06/2023 20:59

@GottaGirlcrush I think the OP had an issue with tall people in large hats - not tall people in general Hmm

Thank you x
I don't have beef with tall people. My husband is one, he certainly wouldn't don a giant hat.

Phones. All I can see often is a sea of phone screens lit up. Always a few dickheads that don’t understand or ignore ‘no flash’ signs and use flash photography or better yet video with it on near you or across so they can blind you..

just enjoy the fricking moment.

LordSalem · 22/06/2023 00:14

People who use their body weight to force you aside so they can get in on the barrier. Fucking painful to me and the lady next to me who'd undergone extensive surgery from a horrific car accident. Then when shouted at, the person cried and all their friends said we were horrible and discriminating against her because she was plus sized. I'd spent 3 hours queuing next to this person spraying hair glitter from a can all over her head and onto others (asthma is fun to have in a tiny space) plus they'd been slagging off the band the entire time.
Want to see a band and get front row? Don't be a complete twat! What's the fucking point?!

ALongHardWinter · 22/06/2023 01:52

GottaGirlcrush · 21/06/2023 15:18

Any other physical attributes you would ban?

Disabled?
Black skin
White skin
People with Dwarfism
Wheelchair users?
People who are overweight???

I mean none of these things can be helped or avoided, same as TALL people

I think the point the poster was making was not about banning people over 6 feet tall, who obviously can't help being that height, but people that tall wearing cowboy hats, which CAN be helped!

Gowlett · 22/06/2023 01:57

Recording a video on your phone. Fucking hate it. It’s gonna be shite. You’re only doing it to post on FB. “Video or it didn’t happen”…

ALongHardWinter · 22/06/2023 01:58

Tratjymp · 21/06/2023 17:11

The Sam Smith gig might have been all right if they'd banned Sam Smith from getting in.

😂😂😂😂

Bournetilly · 22/06/2023 02:01

Signs/ banners.
Sitting on peoples shoulders.

MoltenLasagne · 22/06/2023 03:10

Not banned per se, but I think there should be a rule that nostalgia bands have to state up front if they're only going to be playing songs from their latest flop of an album.

If you want to sell out bigger venues with higher ticket prices then you ought to play the songs people expect to hear. Plus added bonus that if they did have new album only gigs, hard-core fans who are still following the new stuff would be able to see bands in more affordable, intimate venues.

Must have thought hard about that comeback

User195376587 · 22/06/2023 06:43

You can generally look at set lists for tours to check what they are playing.
