I went to my first gig in years yesterday and thought I would start a lighthearted thread about crap that should be banned from gigs and concerts.

My first suggestion is mahoosive cowboy hats on anyone over 6ft tall!!

People who don't use deodorant. People who scream continuously.

Aaaarrrrgghhhhhhhhh

Drives me mad

User195376587 · 21/06/2023 15:44

Phones, I went to a no phone gig to see Bob Dylan and we all had to lock our phones in a pouch, it was so much better, only thing was that I hadn't a clue what the time was for the start, so should have dug out that old watch.

MoonlightMedicine · 21/06/2023 15:47

People who just talk (shout) endlessly to each other the whole way through. Why bother paying for a ticket if you're not going to listen?!

Interested in this thread?

Then you might like threads about these subjects:

People who wave their pints around and dribble beer down your back

People who leave after three songs in a huff (mate, it was the Pet Shop Boys. They were playing Pet Shop Boys songs. What did you expect, and why did it take you ten minutes to extricate yourself from your seat and tread on my toes three times in the process?)

Dodgy security taking back handers from people without tickets leading to deaths from overcrowding and closure of venues

Loudly singing the wrong lyrics, out of tune, during an acoustic number

Massive stadium gigs that finish at 10.30pm meaning half the people trying to leave miss their trains home. Just start a touch earlier, Harry wouldn't mind and he'd probably be happy to be tucked up in bed 30 minutes sooner

People who say they'd like to come to see a gig with you then get huffy because they don't recognise all the songs, even though the last time they listened to the artist was 20 years ago, and since then they've released about eight albums

Excitable social media clips of a tour that looks absolutely amazing and which now - because I am susceptible - I would love to go and see but which will be like the Hunger Games when it comes to trying to get tickets to see in the UK so I will just have to resign myself to waiting for the tour video (do not let me down, Taylor Swift)

All of these taken from my direct experience so far this year.

@SallySailor

You weren't the lady next to us at Peter Gabriel last were you? The guy behind was something else, loudly singing quiet songs 3 or 4 semi tones out and not a harmony!

LlynTegid · 21/06/2023 15:50

Miming by any act. Or at least you should get all your money back including any 'fees' if they do.

Omg yes

I really don't care about what your ex did or where you got a dress from or how much you just love this song

gogomoto · 21/06/2023 15:53

For me seats! I hate all seated concerts (Peter Gabriel I'm looking at you) then people moan you are standing up (dancing it's called) as the people closer are standing yet the person behind complains. How about compulsory standing area as an option, the seat fans can sit in a no standing section

LaurelGrove · 21/06/2023 15:53

No, that wasn't me. Though I'd have liked to see Peter Gabriel. Had a slightly scarring experience working at a Genesis gig as a student, and think I need to lay some ghosts to rest (as I do in fact like a bit of PG).

LaurelGrove · 21/06/2023 15:55

It's tricky, isn't it - some gigs you wonder why on earth they bothered having seating because you know everyone will stand up straight away. And then others, you start off sitting down and then don't know when to stand up. Was at a seated gig on Saturday and it was all a bit awkward as there wasn't really a "stand up" moment. Even though a couple of songs would have been better for it. I find Meltdown events at the Royal Festival Hall particularly tricky in that regard as that is not a venue that screams "stand up, gig goers".

BunnyBettChetwynnd · 21/06/2023 15:56

Bands who keep you waiting and waiting and waiting. Not naming any names.
[CHEMICAL BROTHERS]

Bands who can hardly be arsed to be there and are grumpy and bored by the whole affair. Not naming any names.
[PAUL WELLER. COLDPLAY. ARCTIC MONKEYS]

icebearforpresident · 21/06/2023 15:58

People who throw pints at gigs should be taken out the back and shot.

WhatCameFirstTheChickenOrTheDickhead · 21/06/2023 15:58

People throwing drinks aka piss.

BunnyBettChetwynnd · 21/06/2023 15:59

Men who go into a squashed crowd and take their shirts off.

aperolspritzbasicbitch · 21/06/2023 16:03

People on shoulders.

Get the fuck down.

Didn't realise your view of the stage was pre important than everyone else's!

MyWishIsMyCommand · 21/06/2023 16:04

Overcrowding, getting drunk.

That ends the concert I suppose.

hmrcwhatnow · 21/06/2023 16:06

phones and amateur filming

it was a Yondr pouch which you put your phone in and it looks like you are issued with a wristband so you can use the phone if you needed it for a medical condition.

Zippitydoodaa · 21/06/2023 16:15

GottaGirlCrush !!
Grow up ! Surely you got the idea of the origonal post .
Just being nasty !!

Has2sons · 21/06/2023 16:18

Agree - phones. Just pay attention! Does anyone ever watch all the clips they film?

Also loud sing/shouting - I paid to hear the band. Don’t mind the odd chorus, sing along but entire set, loudly and badly?!

My biggest peeve is full on conversations while the band are on! One conversation I could not help hearing at a recent gig was how they were looking forward to going to IOW festival to see the band that was playing feet away from them at the time!

Hoppinggreen · 21/06/2023 16:18

GottaGirlcrush · 21/06/2023 15:18

Any other physical attributes you would ban?

Disabled?
Black skin
White skin
People with Dwarfism
Wheelchair users?
People who are overweight???

I mean none of these things can be helped or avoided, same as TALL people

I’m pretty sure mahoosive cowboy hats are fully removable and therefore not a physical attribute

AliceMcK · 21/06/2023 16:22

Smoking and vaping
Tall people at the back or side short at the front
Bad body odour

PerrinAybara · 21/06/2023 16:23

Sitting on other people's shoulders. Great - you now have a wonderful view of the stage. I, however, can now see nothing except your back.

pintofginplz · 21/06/2023 16:26

People holding huge signs so people behind can't see anything.
