Both are just over 2 hour drive. Want to go for 3 nights hopefully this weekend.
Couple early 60's like a gentle walks, nice restaurants and pubs.
Wandering around the town.

I'm in the Northwest, absolutely love Anglesey. Never been Barmouth but I can certainly give a vote for Beaumaris!

mafsfan · 20/06/2023 20:47

Not Barmouth - Aberdovey! A hidden gem.

thathitsthespot · 20/06/2023 20:47

For restaurants/pubs I'd say Beaumaris. But by god the seagulls are loud 🤣

GoldDuster · 20/06/2023 20:48

I thought this was going to be about choosing between two baby names

countdowntonap · 20/06/2023 20:48

Also recommending Beaumaris!

Safxxx · 20/06/2023 20:52

Triflenot · 20/06/2023 21:10

Beaumaris

Lisbeth50 · 20/06/2023 21:12

Barmouth has a lovely beach but not much else.

Beaumaris is more of a town with places to visit - castle & jail. We went on a boat trip to Puffin Island when we were there.

BlockbusterVideoCard · 20/06/2023 21:32

Been to both more than once, lived near one for a while. I would pick Beaumaris. Check out the island more broadly and the gallery Oriel Môn in Llangefni, open 10-5 Tuesday to Sunday:

Went to Beaumaris last Summer - it was beautiful and I’d love to return. Never been to Barmouth.

LubaLuca · 20/06/2023 21:35

Beaumaris is better for the sorts of things you're looking for. Barmouth is more for families with its lovely beach, amusements etc.

BlackeyedSusan · 20/06/2023 21:39

we liked Barmouth, had a couple of good pubs and restaurants. was busy. two was good for us but it's got a lot of child orientated shops. Beach is lovely. There is the walk over the railway bridge I think. But we are a bit out of date as it was before covid.

WestOfWestminster · 20/06/2023 21:45

I'd go for Beaumaris & while on Anglesea go for a walk on Newborough beach, beautiful views of Snowdonia and a pretty little lighthouse among sand dunes

crimsonlake · 20/06/2023 21:49

Barmouth has a lovely beach, not sure about good places to eat. However you are an easy drive to Harlech and Cricceth, both have castles and are lovely little towns. I think it may boil down to whether you want to remain in at your base or explore by car. If it is the former I vote for Barmouth and surrounding areas.

TwoBigNoisyBoys · 20/06/2023 21:50

Another vote for Beaumaris. I live (fairly) close and it’s beautiful. Barmouth is also lovely but from your criteria, Beaumaris will suit you better I think. Have a wonderful time!

Justfivemoreminutesplease · 20/06/2023 22:01

Beaumaris without a doubt. Great for a potter around the town and a stop at the Red Boat ice cream shop just along the high street.

whatthebejesus · 20/06/2023 22:18

Another vote for Beaumaris!

StillWantingADog · 20/06/2023 22:20

Beaumaris if you want nice places to eat and stuff to don
