There are some days that I just shouldn't leave the house (weather related comedy of errors)

I didn't look at the weather forecast so I put on a light-weight maxi dress. I met a couple of friends for brunch today, I got there first and by the time that they arrived it was absolutely pissing down so both of them had to sit in their cars for 10 mins before realising that it wasn't going to stop and running for the cafe.

Lovely brunch, rain stopped. Just as we were about to leave torrential rain started again, with thunder and lightning and rivers running through the roads. We all got wet running for our cars. Then I stopped off to get salad (lovely, lovely Waldorf salad) to have with tonight's dinner and filled rolls for the DC for lunch, still raining buckets.

Got home and my drive was a huge puddle, well above the depth of my slightly platform sandals, almost deep enough to completely cover my feet. As I got out of the car I fumbled the salad and it fell into the puddle lid side down. I bent down to pick up the container to throw it out, but forgot to hitch my dress first so the bottom six inches were totally soaked. The type of dress is one that goes on and off over my head, which was especially unpleasant when soggy.

I'd had a parcel delivered while I was out and it was left at the front door, which is usually very well protected from the rain but when I picked it up to carry it inside the cardboard was soaked and gave way so that the contents fell on the ground (fortunately not breakable).

I'm planning to stay in for the foreseeable future. Grin Photo of tragic floating Waldorf salad in the hopes of getting some sympathy.

I really hate hate this weather, when you think for once you can go out without a coat and then it pisses down! Yes I do look at weather forecasts but they are always rubbish!

Sorry about your salad and your dress! I always seem to wear my longest trousers when there are puddles about! I hate the feeling of wet legs!!

I have a forecast app (Weather Pro) that is pretty reliable, I just don't really look at it often enough.

I did a full roast on the bbq on Sunday under a garden umbrella that isn't waterproof. How it came out ok I don't know.

FWIW though I've lived in the ME and US and same issues.

I got caught in the rain at a massive market / show type thing, in a cotton dress.

It got so wet and heavy that it tore across the bust!

Ended up tying a muslin around me like a pashmina to cover my bra.

I'm a barbecue chicken cocksstrideintheevening, if it even looks like rain I will immediately give up and turn the oven on. Grin

Shock at your dress tearing Granny. I was wearing an empire line dress with a very full skirt and it was all clingy around the legs but at least I never felt in danger of it just coming apart. Apparently daring young regency women used to dampen their petticoats to make their skirts clingy and draw the men's attention, it's bloody uncomfortable having your skirt clinging, stuff the men.

Anyway, it's thundering again. DD is a manager of a team playing a mini world cup this evening (she's a teen, the players are primary school age). We're still not sure if it's going ahead given the apocalyptic nature of today's weather.

Just re-read that last post, I meant 'chicken' in terms of 'wuss', I clearly do not get barbecued myself. Grin Although I do stand well back when DH is manning the barbecue, because you never know.
