What group hobbies do you do?

DC are now at school and it feels like the right time to both widen my social circle and do a bit more with my spare time. I've never really done any group hobbies other than running which I currently do once a week. I quite like hiking (but no time for that at the moment and live in London), reading. Never been into gardening, crafts or music and still work full time - would love to get ideas and inspirations about what other people do.

Choir, Am Dram and Improv are all good social hobbies.

Or a team sport.

BMrs · 20/06/2023 14:48

Pilates and ladies cricket. Love both

TeenDivided · 20/06/2023 14:49

Choir. Only joined in Sept and love it.

QuintanaRoo · 20/06/2023 15:10

Cycling with a cycling club.

LadyBrook · 20/06/2023 15:13

Yoga, Japanese study group, board games meet up, book club. I’ve tried a few over the years, usually lots of fun and they don’t mind how often or not you can make it!

PuttingDownRoots · 20/06/2023 15:34

Scout leader. Although you might argue its a punishment not a relaxing activity

YoureRockingTheBoat · 20/06/2023 15:36

Orienteering

I wish I was musical because it sounds like such a fun way of spending time but am really really tone deaf

Yoga and Golf

Clubbercise, tennis, salsa, community choir (you don’t have to be able to sing well at mine - the good voices will drown you out)

I did pole dancing for a while and that was a good laugh. WI is also very popular

ButterflyCharm · 20/06/2023 16:56

I have been in choirs.

Currently a hiking group and I’m in a gaming clan.

Book club, yoga classes, dance classes, pub quiz with friends, I have also been on various committees for my DCs activities at different times. I do conservation work in a local nature reserve from time to time too.

Guide/ Brownie leader & Brass band. Love both.

I often hike but prefer to be solo/pair. Occasionally join the bucks leaders hiking group.

TherapistInATabard · 20/06/2023 17:14

WI and sewing group. I’m also on the committee of our local food festival.

huypyhb · 20/06/2023 20:38

What is the WI like? Also does anyone have any tips on finding a book club? Would be fab to join one but not sure where you can find them

I tried a WI group once, I thought it was very dull and cliquey although there are loads of different groups near me and I've only been to one.

Try a local bookshop, the independent near me has one, so does the Waterstones branch.

I misread that as “Pirates and ladies cricket”. Am disappointed now. 😆
