Swollen tingling hand following tiny bite or sting (pics)

Hand started feeling a bit 'fat' yesterday. Noticed a tiny bite/sting at base of little finger. So minor that i didn't feel it happen and it didn't really itch much. This morning my hand is very swollen and tingly. Is this just a random reaction to a bit or does it need looking at?

I have a dog but pretty sure no ticks or fleas. I was in Africa last week (Tanzania) but this only started yesterday evening so 3 days after trip. Very happy to be told to take a piriton and forget about it - not looking for drama!

Start with piriton. If it is 9red draw round that so you can monitor. Ice and ibuprofen can help swelling.

If you have a local pharmacist let them have a look and if it continues to spread or doesn't go down in a day or two the GP or 111.

I would start with piriton and give it a few days to see what happens. It looks very similar to the reaction I get after a tick or horse fly bite (the horse flies are the worst they've been in years this year!). Because it looks relatively fresh (say last 48 hours), I wouldn't think it would have anything to do with your trip as you would likely have gotten a localised reaction sooner than this. I would just give it time and if not better in a few days, I'd see the pharmacist, unless swelling gets to obviously alarming levels.

I've had a reaction like this (but worse) a couple of times from red ant bites. Agree very unlikely to be from Africa.

Thanks all

Have taken a Piriton. Hopefully that will be the end of it
