Help! Looking for the holy grail - a simple, non-diva printer that does as it's told

Is there such a thing??? I'm usually quite tech savvy, but printers seem to hate me.

So far every single one I have bought has had issues - wouldn't connect to wifi / couldn't be found on the network / black ink coming out pink (despite having the correct b&w and colour cartridges installed) etc.

I just need an old fashioned printer that doesn't behave like a diva. I don't want to download any bloody apps to set it up, don't want to faff about with a wifi connection, don't need it to scan or photocopy or make me a smoothie.

I just want to connect it to my laptop with a cable, click 'print', and it prints. Is there such a thing?? And breathe... TIA.

My HP colour laser and my Brother mono laser are so trouble free and cheap to run. I'll never go back to ink jets. Both can connect via Ethernet (network) wifi or good old USB cable.

We too have an HP colour laser and a Brother mono laser! Use the brother much more than the HP. It is attached to our network so that I can use it from my tablet and phone (no suitable connection port) plus a laptop but it is also attached by cable to a desktop.

The cost of the 'ink' appears higher but it lasts so much longer and the laser printers are much faster than inkjets.

We can compatible toners from a firm called StinkyInk, not the actual maker's ones. Less than half the price of the official ones, and they have bargain offers from time to time.

If you don't need colour then a Brother mono laser printer will serve you well. I'm on my second of exactly the same model after the first one conked out after 5 years very heavy use.

Absolutely not an HP e-smart Instant Ink.

The ink might be instant but the printer is not.

I have to turn it on and off every single time to get it to print.

I got the HP colour laser for £50 when my local Staples closed down. There are bargains to be had.

That's great, thank you all 🙂 I've just returned my current faulty one (inexpensive HP Deskjet), and was given a replacement. If that gives up the ghost as well, I'll go for a Brother one.
