I know the shortest day is 21st June but is the shortest night the one before or after or are they both the same?

Good question! I'll wait here for three answer from someone 😄

21st June is the longest day not shortest so the night of 21st into 22nd is the shortest.

I'm puzzled by the fact that the nights don't appear to begin drawing in after 21/06. For example, in the BBC weather app, the sun sets at 21.31 on 20/06, but then doesn't move to 21.30 until 02/07.

Oops yes OP should have said 21st June longest day!

According to bbc, sunset on Tuesday and Wednesday is at the same time, but sunrise on wednesday is one minute earlier than on Thursday, meaning the night of 20/21st is shorter than that of 21/22nd

I always thought it was 21 june?

It varies from 20th to 21st of June as the astronomical calendar is 365.25 days
