Where to solo holiday

If you had £1000 and a week spare in August where would you holiday solo? Happy to fly, train, bus etc. Starting in the North of England. Preferably somewhere warm/hot. I like beautiful buildings, nice scenery, pools, beaches, animals etc but to be honest I just need a change of scenery so I'm open minded.

Travelling on my own I’d probably go for a city break. Munich has a lot to offer and has lakes/mountains/beautiful nature in easy reach by train if you want nature.
Copenhagen, Stockholm, Gothenburg, Oslo… all cities by the sea, and not too hot in August. Though the budget might be a stretch. What does the 1K need to cover? Flights, accommodation? Or everything including food, entrance fees etc?

You might get a cruise for that. If it's a late one It's really safe as a single traveller. Lots to do. New places to visit every day.

Or go to an all inclusive so you feel safe eating out and going to the entertainment

Lagos in Portugal. Beautiful beach, epic snorkeling, an amazing museum and so much else going on.

Otherwise Prague and Krakow are amazing for the history, architecture and culture (I've lived in all three!)

Italy or a Greek island. I'd probably go to Chania in Crete, or maybe Rhodes town.

I'm in Chania on my own at the moment.

Actually Malta was a real surprise! I only went there because it was DH's friend's wedding. Really beautiful, loads of activities to do, swimming, lovely beaches, great restaurants etc etc. And it's tiny so you can go anywhere within an hour or so. I spent plenty of time out without DH and never felt worried or threatened at all. The people are generally lovely!

Agreed! I go every year in August.

There's a great little hotel on Crete in the Chania area that caters for solo travellers. I've been a few time and never been disappointed.
The Mistral Hotel

@ilovesooty is this where you are?

I regularly go to Turkey on my own (specifically Hisaronu/Olu Deniz area). It's and area I feel very safe in on my own (much safer than in the UK). Last minute flights can be cheap as a single and I book hotels direct (having found them initially on Booking.com etc) - booking direct they often don't charge single supplement.

I appreciate it wouldn't be for everyone but I have now done it over 15 times

RunsLikeaLittleFatDuck · 23/06/2023 09:48

@ilovesooty not at the moment and no plans to go this year.
