Holiday dreaming?

If you've got a holiday booked this summer (lucky I know).... what are you really looking forward to about it? Been on Tripadvisor this morning and dreaming of all the holiday feels - that feeling of showering after a day on the beach, the heat when you get off the plane, sunset on the beach. Anyone care to indulge me with what they're looking forward to?

Going to Greece in two weeks. Looking forward to sitting on the balcony after a day by the pool or beach. Freshly showered, having a drink while waiting to get ready... bliss.

Enjoy! That sounds like just the ticket.

Not having to think about food planning, food shopping and cooking.

Sitting down in the evening to have a restaurant meal, so satifying after a long day of beach, market shopping, exploring.

Oh and a peaceful cup of tea first thing in the morning looking forward to the day ahead.

We're going for a city break followed by a sport event (in the same country) in a couple of weeks.

I'm looking forward to seeing the stunning architecture in the city. Then I cant wait to spend time with DS at the sporting event. Hes a great kid and has had to put up with a lot over the last few years so he really deserves it.

I didn't want to miss out on a beach holiday though so booked a cheap and cheerful winter hol in the canaries for November. It was so so cheap. I cant wait to see DC playing together in the sea and sand there. I'm concious that I only have a few years left before older DS will think thats boring and not want to do it anymore.

I think it's the only way I get through the year! I'm going away with friends for 10 days while dd is with her dad. I haven't been able to stop thinking about it since I booked...

Totally! I have to remind myself not to wish the time away!

Not this summer but planning our Christmas trip to America to see family we haven't seen since pre covid. We always go to Vermont to the same hotel as a side trip and was just imagining the snow, the beautiful Christmas decorations, the amazing brunches...
Then my daughter announced she doesn't want to go there again 😭😭😭. I have booked it and just trying to figure out how to persuade her!

I'm just looking forward to exploring a new place, not having to shop or cook or clean, swimming outside in the sunshine, breathing in the sea air, getting away from the daily grind at home. We're having a proper summer beach holiday in a hotel, which is unusual for us, we usually self-cater, so it should be a treat!

This will sound pathetic but I started a post about 4 years ago when I was sitting in the airport lounge in tears because our DS18 didn't want to come away with us anymore. I had been watching all the families with their young excited children and it had suddenly dawned on me that that time had passed for us.

Well this year DS overheard us talking about booking a villa with a pool in Crete. He asked if he could tag along (ie cheap holiday for him!) DH and I are secretly delighted to have him for 10 days and although DS will not be running around the airport lounge anymore (we hope!) it will be so lovely to have some quality time with him again - and DH will have someone else to play bloody bat and ball with in the pool and will leave me alone!

We are going to Mauritius in November, it's the start of their summer at that time of year, been there a few times before but not in the past five years.

I can't wait to walk out of the plane into the bridge and feel the hot air sweep around me. It gradually gets warmer and warmer as you walk along the tunnel into the terminal. But nothing can beat the blast of hot air in your face as soon as you walk out of the terminal into the carpark. It literally takes my breath away, I find the change in atmosphere so sudden, cool aircon to tropical humidity and heat.

Then there's the drive to our hotel, we always stop at the same place to get coffee and a breakfast muffin. Anybody who has been to a Lux Cafe will know exactly what I'm talking about!

The feeling of walking around for hours, wearing nothing more than a bikini and wispy beach dress.

The smell of sunscreen.

The lovely warm, slightly fuzzy, detached, floaty feeling I get after a few cocktails, when it's still early in the afternoon and we have the whole day ahead to do nothing.

The warmth of the ocean there, its like walking into a hot bath.

The smell of tropical rain, a sort of heavy, burnt wood, sweet smell.

How "sexy" I feel, if that's the right word, walking around in the smallest, lightest bits of clothes I can get away with, and not feeling self-conscious because everyone is doing the same. I haven't explained that very well. I mean the whole thing of being almost naked for hours on end, doing "ordinary things" like sitting at a bar having a drink. But in this case the bar stools ar in the pool and you swim up to get a seat. Then sut there in your bikini, slowly getting all buzzy and relaxed. I just find the whole thing so, I don't know, "sexy".

The heat in Port Louis. Walking around with sweat literally dripping down your back. The chaos of the markets there.

Watching the gorgeous Sega dancers.

The friendliness of people, always smiling.

Just the whole feeling of difference.
