Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone got planned for today?

And Happy Father's Day to any Dads reading this 💐

I'm in my kitchen spot, drinking my first cuppa of the day. I have the window wide open so I can hear the birds but am not venturing out to sit at my table because it's all wet & I cba to dry it yet.

Other than sorting my head, that is now pretty bald, I'm going to spend the day painting a rather battered wooden toy cake to send in to work I think, maybe crochet a bit more of my top in between coats of paint.

Dd1 seriously needs to start gutting her bedroom now her GCSE's are finished so I'll set her on with that, and dd2 announced yesterday that she plans to sort her bedroom today. So, they'll both be busy pretty much all day judging by the state of them (I tend to keep schtum about their rooms - mine was as bad, if not worse, as a teen). I'll help if they need me to.

They have some presents for their dad, when everyone's up & he was going to nip to Asda or Lidl for me, for a few bits to last until my shop's due in the week. There's enough to make meals but they need some sort of accompaniment.

I have no idea what's for tea yet, I'll see what their dad fancies later & decide myself if he's not fussed.

Tonight will be either do my nails, or more crochet, in front of Food Network on the tv.

What about all of you? 🙂

We're off to my DD's for Father's Day Lunch. DP is soooo excited!

hopeishere · 18/06/2023 08:40

Get up and shower.
Bath ds2.
Take ds2 to a show.
Drop ds1 to the gym if he wants.
Out for dinner for Father's Day which is great as it means I get a break as well!!

Mumteedum · 18/06/2023 08:41

I'm struggling a bit with my ME just now so I'll be mainly resting which is boring. I'll try and read a bit in the garden if possible. I have a couple of plants that need repotting before I kill them. Ds is off to see his Dad for a couple of hours so I'll maybe watch some TV while resting on sofa while he's out. I'm really into National Theatre online just now. Might watch a play. Oh and there's the laundry mountain to tackle.

All of that is probably more activity than I should do and it's not much. We'll see.

Beautifulsunflowers · 18/06/2023 08:42

Hey there @lucysmam - another what are we up to today thread! My favourite!! how are you feeling? What are you crocheting?
Today I’m about to get up and get my first cuppa, then I’ll watch the F1 qualifying on catch-up, go to body balance and then my mum and dad are coming round for dinner. My boys are with their dad this weekend but the youngest is the same as your daughter - has just finished GCSEs so it’s a nice feeling all round that that’s over! No more nagging him to revise!! He’ll need to tidy up his room too after the weekend……..
Anyway enjoy your day.

SomethingNastyInTheGenePool · 18/06/2023 08:43

Morning! That sounds like a nice, gentle day, @lucysmam . I love that you seem to have such a good relationship with the girls’ dad.

DP or I will take DD to her playscheme this morning. While she’s safely out of the house, I’ll get on with making the ice cream I didn’t get round to yesterday (made the main course instead), and I’ll hastily write DP and my dad’s Father’s Day cards and wrap their presents.

When DD’s home and DDad arrives, we’ll have lunch - not sure what
the weather’s going to be doing, but I’m hoping we’ll be able to eat in the garden.

When DD’s in bed, I need to get stuck into reading the specialist speech therapy report we commissioned for her EHCP review. There are many, many pages and I will need snacks!

Defender90 · 18/06/2023 08:44

Off to see a couple of volunteers at a fundraiser and re-stock some things for them and give some tombola donations, nip to tesco and then see Dad and call in to see my Gran who will serve up a massive portion of guilt because I've not been for the last couple of weeks.

Then home, whizz round with the hoover make dinner and get ready for the week ahead. How is it Sunday already.

NeverThatSerious · 18/06/2023 08:47

A nice steady day all round then, sounds nice 😊

This morning, we’re going to be taking it pretty easy, I’ve got to get on top of the housework a bit.. I let it slide the last few weeks because I’ve been very ill (sepsis) and my husband hasn’t been around due to work so I had to prioritise! I think DH is planning on taking DS (nearly 2) for a quad bike ride to check stock on our farm then we’ll hopefully get him down for an early nap as we’re going to my BILs later for a late ish dinner. We’ve not seen them since Christmas, so that’ll be nice.

Good morning Lucysmam and all. I would imagine it's too hot for wigs at the moment. I have almost no hair left because of various health conditions.
I've been up since before seven as I don't sleep well. Two coffees and toast down already. I'm heading for a shower soon, then a trip to buy various birthday gifts. After that, I'll do some work to a painting I've begun. Enjoy your day

lucysmam · 18/06/2023 09:11

@LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand I did wonder about it being too warm for a wig - I'm hoping it arrives this week so I can test-run before prom night since dd1 is insistent I'm in photos.

@Defender90 that sounds like you're whizzing round already! I hope you get some time to relax too.

@Beautifulsunflowers I'm feeling good, other than the hair thing. My current crochet project is the top in the picture - I'm about half way down the neck/yoke at the moment. I do have a big blanket on the go too but it's a bit warm for that right now.

@Mumteedum I'm right with you on resting being boring...there is nothing worse (imo) than watching other people do stuff when you want to do things as well, but just can't.

Currently letting DH sleep in, I’m having an attack of hay fever which I realise now is probably from the cat rolling in pollen and coming for a morning cuddle 🙄very sniffy and itchy.

We’re off out for breakfast when DH gets up and then a row in a boat along the river- DD has been desperate to go for ages! Will laze around the house this afternoon and do DDs homework, then DH is off to work and DD and I are going to my parents for tea (homemade burgers)

@Mumteedum sympathy and solidarity, I’ve been there with CFS/ME and it’s horrible

OldTinHat · 18/06/2023 09:13

Morning @lucysmam and everyone else!

At the end of a great day at the IOW festival, DS had his phone and wallet stolen so we've got masses to do this morning. We've cancelled his cards (thieving bastards have already spent like crazy including a £200 Argos order) and we're waiting for the police station to open so he can get a crime reference number then we're off to the phone shop for a replacement sim and cheap phone.

He wants to go back home later, understandably, but I hope he'll stay until tomorrow as planned.

Fingers crossed we can rescue some of the day at least!

Hope you all have a great fathers day whatever you have planned.

Taytocrisps · 18/06/2023 09:23

Lots of housework because I had a very lazy day yesterday, so I need to catch up today. I have a meeting with a group I attend this evening.

I'm not seeing my Dad for Father's Day 'cos I've just had him to stay for a week. Anyway, my sister's taking him out for the day. But I'll give him a quick call to wish him a nice day.

@lucysmam sorry to hear about your baldness. Is that due to cancer or something else?

lucysmam · 18/06/2023 09:30

@OldTinHat what a shame about your son's wallet and phone, I hope it's sorted quickly and you can continue to enjoy IOW.

@Taytocrisps yes, due to chemo. My hair had done well tbf, I'm five weeks in & up to last night was steadily shedding it & leaving quite the trail of "hair spiders" behind me 🙈 The majority of what was left showered right off my head last night. I've got my "big girl pants on & deal with it" head on this morning. The rest, I'll comb out any loose hair, and then shave the remains so I'm not too patchy.

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 18/06/2023 09:31

Lucysmam I've thought about a wig myself but I've never done anything about it. I think if it makes you feel better, definitely wear it for the prom photo.

mondaytosunday · 18/06/2023 09:40

@lucysmam those are AMAZING! I started crocheting a couple months ago but have only been making simple beanies and about a gazillion different kinds of scrunchies!
My husband is deceased so no celebration here. My daughter said she'll come to do a small food shop - this is quite momentous as she hates going but she finished her A levels earlier this week, has had a major sort out of her clothes and is starting to get a bit bored. She has a busy week ahead though.
My son (who lives on his own) is about to go for a run! He first said 'rest day mum no gym today' but he has an overload of energy.
When I went downstairs at 7am to feed the cats and let the dogs out my neighbour was already outside with his three year old - no rest of you've got young ones!
Main chore is to get the kitchen ship shape - broke my toe a few days ago standing has been awkward so kitchen is a mess!

AsCloggedAsADysonFilter · 18/06/2023 09:41

Morning everyone. Pleased you are not feeling too unwell lucysmam. You definitely need to be in the photos!

It is much cooler here today. I am watching Laura K in my underwear, must get dressed. Driving to see my parents in a bit, that'll take most of the day (2 hour drive). Might go to the gym later this evening but probably won't as I imagine I'll be tired after driving. They are replacing a bridge on the motorway, I've been stuck in a ten mile tailback every time I have been to see them since about the beginning of March.

I feel a bit off today, not sure what but I didn't fancy any dinner last night which isn't like me.

AsCloggedAsADysonFilter · 18/06/2023 09:42

Just seen your crocheting @lucysmam - it is amazing!

lucysmam · 18/06/2023 09:48

@mondaytosunday if you can make a beanie, you can make anything! I quite often need to look up "how to crochet X stitch" still but honestly, they both look way more complex than they actually are (the photo of the top is not mine - I was too lazy to shift & take a pic of it 🙈).

Morning @lucysmam sorry to hear about your hair. A friend of mine is also going through chemo and she's got some really elegant head coverings I think from Etsy, sort of with a tail bit of material looks lovely.

DH had a lie in for father's Day he's just got up. Made him breakfast in bed with presents and cards.

We are having a slow morning, homework and bed changing etc. Food shop about to arrive. I realised there's a couple of items I forgot to add to debating going the shop or seeing if it can wait until.our midweek top-up.

Will get a curry going in the slow cooker once the food shop has been delivered. This afternoon we are going swimming / hydrotherapy for disabled DC. Possibly a trial lesson for our youngest if there's space.

Home for aforementioned curry, early nights all round as everyone exhausted from the heat last week. I would normally do self care Sunday of bath gin and kindle on a Sunday night but with us going swimming I'll shower at swimming so will make it self care Monday instead 😂

Really want to finish my book tonight, 100 pages to go. Something very satisfying about finishing a book on a Sunday and choosing a new one for the new week.... simple pleasures 🙂

Devastateddaughter · 18/06/2023 09:59

We're going to see my dad , it's his last Fathers Day, I'm struggling already, I hope I can hold it together 😢

lucysmam · 18/06/2023 10:02

@Decafflatteplease I have a couple of pre-tied head scarf things, didn't think to check etsy though - I just headed for ebay. I'll look on etsy too now! I keep meaning to try curry in the sc but never get round to it 🙄

@Devastateddaughter I hope today isn't too difficult for you 💐

One child is sleeping and the other is playing Fortnite. I'm going to have a bath soon and scrub all the dead skin off my feet Blush then go and visit family. Maybe go for a McDonald's after then home to chill out for the rest of the day.

Crunchymum · 18/06/2023 10:09

Crap about the hair @lucysmam but If you are feeling very self conscious there are options out there. I say go au naturale though and hold your head up high!!!

Lazy day for us today as DP is off up North for work (leaves this afternoon) He's just gone to collect eldest DC from a sleep over and I'm sorting out brunch for us all. Then it will just be the usual Sunday chores - ironing, homework, baths and relaxing. Kids have had a mammoth week (8yo swam everyday and the chikd that never stops is actually tired for once!!) So today is a day of rest.

Xtraincome · 18/06/2023 10:11

Hi OP. Hope you're feeling ok on chemo? I have been wanting to pick up my crochet hooks again recently too.

We had a pastry and fruit breakfast for DH. We are taking the DDs swimming in 20 minutes. DH has selected McDs for his Father's Day lunch which will happen after swimming. I will do some studying when he has his nap and then just getting ready for the week. Will be Black Mirror on TV tonight for us- can't wait!

onwardandupwards · 18/06/2023 10:21

Morning everyone, dd 4 and ds 3 were up by 5am, they are now making a fathers day card and picture, stickers, feathers, glue and sequins are everywhere except the actual card, but they are quiet and having such fun, then we will clean our pet mice out ( we have 7) and have a picnic lunch. Will let dd hoover up the mess as she loves using the hoover. Their dad is popping over later to make pizzas and take them on a bike ride if not too warm. Hope everyone has a lovely day.
