Cancel mri scan because of school event?

There is an event at school that ds has been looking forward to for over a year. It's a one time thing for his year group only so there won't be another opportunity. We've just been given the date and it's the same day as his MRI scan. The scan is not looking for anything life threatening but he has multiple conditions and to delay the MRI could mean a delay in treatment which could also then delay treatment for his other conditions including an operation we have waited 2 years for.

I know I have to tell ds that he can't do the school thing but I just feel so sad for him. It's so so unfair when he has already missed out on so many fun things because of his medical problems.

Have you called them to ask when the next available slot would be? It might not be a long wait. You could also enquire whether they have had a cancellation.

I would ask to be put on a cancellation list and explain the situation. There will be someone else needing to re-schedule and you can likely pop into their slot.

This is my view too. My ds1 has had hundreds of appointments over the last 12 years and we reached a point about 5 years ago when we decided to prioritise him enjoying life. It might rely on the option to rearrange, but I'd at least have a damn good go and really way up the situation. He will be grateful for you even trying I'm sure.

I would call and ask as others have said.

if he is looking forward to the event I would try and get him there if at all possible

No harm in ringing up, explaining the situation, and seeing if there's something they could do. You never know, someone else with a slot a week or two later might be desperately ringing hoping for an earlier scan ...

Id do my best to reschedule the MRI tbh.

Also have a child with medical needs and for us, the special days that are important for my child, help get us through the medical appts.

megletthesecond · 17/06/2023 12:39

I'd call the MRI unit. There's no harm in asking if it can be rescheduled to another close date.
If you don't ask you don't get.

Thankyou. I will ring radiology on Monday and hopefully they can reschedule.
