How can I work out if a decorating quote is reasonable?

I invited 4 companies to quote.

Only one turned up. The guy seems sound, and knowledgeable. His company gets good reviews online.

How can I work out if his quote is reasonable if I have nothing to compare it to? I haven't had any work done on the house for years, I'm out of touch on how much things cost!

What would you do?

Checkatrade says average cost is £400 per room. If you live in an expensive area they tend to quote in the higher side.

It depends on what you want doing, how big the rooms are, any complicated features, who is supplying the materials. I believe decorators generally work on an hourly rate, so it will matter how many hours it takes.

I was just quoted £750 to decorate my son's room, including paint.

I have no idea how long it'll take.

It's a bog standard small WC size (no pun intended!) Or smaller even...

Just enough room for the toilet and a small sink. We're putting a bifold door on as there isn't enough room for a door to open inwards, so that may give you an idea.

I can't do it myself. I want to pay a reasonable going rate.
