Sickness and diarrhoea - flying home tomorrow

Hi everyone
I am in Spain with my DH and DC and we are due to get the hour long transfer to the airport at 6am to fly at 10am. An hour ago I vomited and have had diarrhoea a few times.

Can anyone advise me what to do? DH has taken the kids to the entertainment but I’m in a tizz about what to do. Still feeling a bit sicky and churny. Just want to be home in my own bed! Any advice??

Immodium or equivalent

bibbityboppityboo · 16/06/2023 19:46

Imodium, some electrolyte water if you can get it (basically fancy salted water) and something dry to nibble on the plane.

SickOnHols · 16/06/2023 19:55

Will Imodium work on potential sickness?

Drink plenty of water or flat come/lemonade and eat bland food only if you are hungry.

Oh you poor thing.

You’re right in that Imodium won’t help with vomiting. Sounds like you’ve got a bug - in my experience you will probably be done vomiting by 6am (obviously no guarantee!). So I’d get the Imodium for the diarrhoea if you can and put up with feeling a bit grim on the plane. Biggest risk is probably that your husband or kids have got it, as sickness bugs can be stupidly contagious. Not much mitigation other than trying to avoid contact as much as possible and making sure you’re fastidious about hygiene, although you may have already passed it on before you had symptoms. If they come down with it in the night / tomorrow then you may have to change your flight, which obviously be a pain. If you have a travel rep then they should be able to help you, and should be claimable back on travel insurance.

good luck and lots of sympathy!

you Might be able to get prochlorperazine (stemetil) it’s an antisickness used for travel sickness x

cocksstrideintheevening · 16/06/2023 20:26

Imodium and a sick bag. Good luck!

SickOnHols · 16/06/2023 20:35

Thanks everyone.

Does seem bug like as I’ve been sick again but it was just bile so hopefully everything is cleared out now. I’ve told my husband to sleep in the lounge with the kids to keep seperate in hopes they can steer clear. I brought antibac wipes with me but I know bleach is what’s needed against sick bugs.

We agreed that if anyone else comes down with it or I’m still being sick or have runs then we will call the dr and see if they can advise before contacting travel insurance.

Thanks again everyone, appreciate it

I sympathise. Had a mild case of feeling sick, 2 bouts of diarrhoea just before a flight home a few years ago. I was trying to hold back the vomit in the airport to be honest but luckily after an hour and a half just before the flight things settled. I ate NOTHING for a good few hours. I didn't feel like it anyway. I'd advise you to do the same.

Contact the Dr for anti sickness medication. They should be able to give you an injection to cover you for 12 hours.
