Dangerous dogs act banned breeds

I was just reading about the possibility of American bully xl dogs being potentially added to the list of banned breeds. What happens to those already owned ? Do they have to be surrendered and euthanised ?

Is it likely they’ll be added to the list ? Where we live there are suddenly a lot and I’ve seen puppies for sale on local selling sites.

They’ll need a license and chip id imagine.
rather than banning certain breeds owners should have to train their dogs by law. I know 2 xl bullies who are lovely, well trained dogs. In the right hands any dog can be safe as can any breed in the wrong hands be dangerous, so for me I think it’s more important that every breed should be owned by responsible people only and have that enforced.

I could be wrong about this - but I think when the initial banned dogs list was introduced, owners of those breeds had a set time to either have the dogs put down, exported or get an exemption (I'm not sure how this was done).

I imagine that if they tried it now, there would be absolute outrage and existing dogs would not be put down.

They just had to be spayed/castrated and muzzled in public places (that caused a bit of a furore as to what constituted a "public place IIRC). If they're adding XL bullies they ought to go ahead and add Cane Corso and boerboels IMO.

It will be pointless, regardless. As with the APBT the Bully XL is a type rather than a breed. All you end up with is breeders and owners passing them off as AmStaffs, AmBulls, staffie/bull/mastiff crossbreeds with a bit of everything in them. It’s also going to be a ants nest the police have no appetite to kick, with the potential for accusations of police bias over stopping one owner of a dog which looks a particular way because owner is young and black and in a poor area but not somebody else with a very similar looking dog because owner is white and in a naice area.
