Can I ask for notes from therapist?

Hi, I had some therapy for about six months, this was about a year ago. Do therapists take notes after sessions and am I allowed to request them?

Was this with the NHS/third sector organisation or private?
if NHS/third sector yes there will be electronic notes and you can request them through making a SAR request, there is a 30 day turnaround on these usually.

if private, most therapists should abide by GDPR rules around holding personal data/info but they don’t all take ‘process’ notes, only factual info. But you can make a request.

do you know what accrediting body they are registered with?

This was private. BACP I believe
