Wedding and D&V

We're travelling up north early in the morning tomorrow for my sister's wedding.

When I picked DS up earlier (20months) they said there had been 2 cases of D&V at nursery (sounded like one of them was in DS' group today).

Honestly I'm fretting quite a bit. It's a 7 hours drive and I also have visions of DS projectile vomiting during the ceremony out of the blue and ruining everything.

Should I be keeping him away altogether or something? Am I overthinking this? Will I know if we're in the clear by then? (48 hours-ish).

My sister wanted to spend Friday night with us too so she could see the children so now I guess I should tell her not to so we don't risk passing anything on to her the day before her wedding.

Urgh. This sucks.

Just keep him away from your sister
I’ve had notifications like this upon nursery pick up “ oh two children have had signs of chicken pox and had to go home “ then I worried constantly but they never ever got it. ( got it years later 😆)
So I understand the fear of the nursery pick up messsge but I’d still attend and just try to enjoy xx but stay away from
Close contact with the bride just in case

There is a good chance your kids will be fine

Thank you @FijiSea , my anxious mind can run away with me sometimes so it's good to hear a balanced view.

I might suggest meeting her on my own tomorrow night while DS stays in hotel with DH, but also give her the option to opt out altogether if she prefers.

It's just so annoying as we live quite far away and haven't hung out in months.

But yes, I must remember that we've had that notice several times before and DS is yet to catch a sickness bug. He even escaped it when eldest DC had one last year. We'd be really down on our luck if this was the time!

I just know I will worry the whole weekend regardless...

Think positive, have a lovely weekend.
If you are ok so far then I’m sure it will be ok ( the one time I did catch gastro from DC nursery it was onset within 12 hours of pick up ). Fingers crossed for you and family

DS has been up for an hour, really unsettled which isn't like him. He wants to sleep but something is bothering him. He keeps coughing and making strange noises with his mouth and touching his tummy...
It's the morning of the wedding and I'm expecting vomit any minute. Gutted :(

Don't panic yet, he could just be unsettled due to not sleeping at home and waking up in a different place..

Weenurse · 17/06/2023 06:16

I hope he settles

Justwantedtogotoawedding · 17/06/2023 06:28

He's beside himself but won't let DH or I near him. He also woke our eldest, who'd only fallen asleep at 11pm due to excitement last night. So at best, I'm dealing with 2 hugely overtired DC today!!

I'm going to cancel my hair appointment for a start as I can't leave DH to deal with this. Attending will be a start, never mind if I look like a scarecrow!

Can I recommend homeopathic remedy Nelson’s Arsen alba to you - it was recommended to me when my son pick up D&v from Thailand and worked instantly. I bought it in boots but also sold at health food shops.
I hope you are able to enjoy your sisters wedding.
It’s your sisters wedding I am sure your hubby can manage the two while you get your hair done.

Flocider · 17/06/2023 06:38

Why can't your DH deal with his 2 children on the day of your sisters wedding whilst you get your hair done? 🥴

Justwantedtogotoawedding · 17/06/2023 06:41

Thank you @VDisappointing , we're in the middle of nowhere but will definitely get this next time I'm near Boots. Always handy to have.

I just feel bad for DH as we're staying away from home and there are no toys for the kids in the place we're staying either, so not many options for entertaining 2 overtired, crying children, one possibly sick.

Though I wonder if it may be something else now. DS feels warm and has a lot of green snot, and a cough. Fingers crossed just a stupid cold virus. We'll have to see if he eats breakfast.

Don't cancel your hair appointment when your DH can just stick a film on and the kids can sleep if they need to. I'm sure he wouldn't worry about leaving you to deal with anything.

WeAreTheHeroes · 17/06/2023 06:43

Don't cancel your hair appointment. It'll help you relax. You sound so over-anxious and you should enjoy the day.

YeraQuizardHarry · 17/06/2023 06:43

Don't cancel your appointment

MaverickSnoopy · 17/06/2023 06:47

Prepare yourself as practically as you can, both in terms of things like calpol just in case, but also a plan b in case he is ill. I have everything crossed for you. It could just be overtiredness if he's used to a very regular routine (which is what happens with mine).

Justwantedtogotoawedding · 17/06/2023 06:48

Thank you for telling me to go to the appointment, OK I will! It will be nice to get out. Also, DH can't complain, he slept through the 4am debacle.

It sounds like you are just v anxious which is understandable as you have I imagine been looking forward to this for ages. It's been a hot night and you are away from home. The little one may have one of the million minor bugs that they pick up from nursery but could be absolutely fine later when the celebrations start. Please go and get your hair done, have a glass or two of fizz and enjoy your special family day. It's a glorious day for a wedding xxx

Hunkydory99 · 17/06/2023 06:58

I have children who catch every tummy bug going. We pack a sick bowl (69p bowl from wilko’s) puppy pads, dettol wipes and baby wipes as well as a Change of clothes each. Also helpful if they’re car sick

Justwantedtogotoawedding · 17/06/2023 11:34

Thank you, he seems fine thankfully, he's eaten loads for breakfast. He's catching up on some sleep now.

In fact, all 3 of them are asleep right now, I'm exhausted but can't lay down or I will mess up my hair! I tried a nap sitting up but it didn't really work. Never mind! Coffee it is!

Thanks @Hunkydory99 yes we packed all this when we saw the sign at nursery so at least I'm feeling quite prepared if it does happen, especially on the long journey home!
