How hot is your workplace this week and how are you coping?

Just wondering really. Mine is 28-29 degrees and I'm coming home feeling ill with it. Teacher - used to shitty working conditions, feel really sorry for the kids who are meant to be learning in it.

What's it like where you work?

Same as you. About 30. Not the most fun!

Piapea · 15/06/2023 21:42

Also 28° and also a teacher.. worst part is my school building actually has AC, they just won't turn it on😡

telli · 15/06/2023 21:49

I work outside, I've cried the last two days after work. I'm currently questioning all my life choices at the prospect of another day out in it tomorrow 😔

verdantverdure · 15/06/2023 21:51

It's hideous isn't it?

And to think it only gets worse from here.

LuckOfTheDrawer · 15/06/2023 21:58

It's about the same - it's just gets warmer and warmer all day, while my productivity gets lower and lower. I leave my simpler work for the end of the day!

djlon · 15/06/2023 22:01

I have a hybrid role, I work out in the community but also from home sometimes so does depend on the day very much. I do find in the heat wherever I am, I am so much more uncomfortable and my productivity falls quickly.

That's awful that it's bad enough to make you cry. Sad

The forecast is cooler next week at least.

About the same except Wed and Thur the heating was on when I arrived🙄

nattiee · 15/06/2023 22:33

We have air con at work but a couple of people like to turn it up to 28 degrees Angry when they get cold! At 33 weeks pregnant it's not comfortable at all and is definitely making me feel sick

BerryTrifle · 15/06/2023 22:38

I work in an office where people sit around in thick cardigans most of the year. It's come into its own this week ;)

Chesneyhawkes1 · 15/06/2023 22:41

The air con is so cold I've been sitting with my thin coat on 🤦‍♀️ today I turned it off and opened the windows - much better.

RampantIvy · 15/06/2023 22:44

I wore a cardigan at work today because the aircon made the office too cold.

WeWereInParis · 15/06/2023 22:54

Bloody freezing. The air con is turned right up.

JamMakingWannaBe · 15/06/2023 23:06

Fucking freezing. I'm sitting in a jumper and fleece and my colleague has a storage heater next to her desk. Old brick building with stone floors that sits in shade from surrounding buildings. It just doesn't heat up. I was warmer in Winter with the central heating on!

CatsRebellion · 15/06/2023 23:23

28°. But those who work in the office or downstairs get to work in air con loveliness. Not me. Sadly.

GreggAndTomlette · 15/06/2023 23:25

District nurse here, sweltering in people’s homes, almost every patient I saw today also had their fire on 🥵 I had to turn it off in the last patients home as I genuinely thought I would faint!
Got my air con on full blast; trying to get the heaviest visits done in early, parking in the shade where possible and as many stops for ice Lolly’s as possible!

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 15/06/2023 23:31

No air con. Working over a laundry press set at 170 degrees plus general running around a large hotel. Average temp is around 30 degrees. I’ve just got used to it. But the shower when I get home is utterly blissful. (Downside - my feet feel like they’ve been immersed in hot soup all shift. )

UsingChangeofName · 15/06/2023 23:40

Another advantage of wfh - you can do what suits you.
The room I work in doesn't get much sun, but I have a fan I can put on when I need it.
it is freezing in the Winter though

Missymarple · 15/06/2023 23:56

I work in a hideous 'temporary' hut constructed 30 years ago with limiters on how far windows can open, it's an oven in the summer but an ice box in the winter. No idea what prompted it but maintenance people came round and we suddenly have air con. It's made a huge difference this past couple of weeks, people can actually focus on their work again.

noblegiraffe · 16/06/2023 00:24

Being cold is shit too. Those of you with too cold air-con, can't you ask for it to be turned up a bit?

OP posts:
OldChinaJug · 16/06/2023 00:38

Also a teacher. It's ridiculously warm. Behaviour is terrible - children are rude, attitude is terrible, they're not interested in learning, complaining about the hear (I don't blame them), irritating and irritated by each other and I was physically assaulted by a child earlier this week. I'm too uncomfortable to teach; the children are too uncomfortable to learn. There's not enough shade outside and the classroom is too hot.

So none of us are coping really!

Toddlerteaplease · 16/06/2023 00:47

Normally 29-30. Unbearable and we do 12.5 hour shifts.

Generally speaking I often feel colder than other people so I don't think everyone finds the air con too much. Also I work for a very large company, and the office I work in is 7 floors and hundreds of employees so I don't think they take individual requests from employees about being too hot or too cold.

ThePlasticScouser · 16/06/2023 07:08

Not coping well at all and I am a pretty fit and resilient person who has lived in hotter places than here. My co. adjusted the temp in our workplace to save money, colder in winter, now hotter in summer, and it is unbearable. Despite my 2L water bottle being drained, I came away with a massive headache and took medication for the first time in years to get rid of it.

My co.s cost savings WRT airflow and temperature IMO are a breach of their duty of care to us, and a false economy. They did it to save money, and next time I get a massive headache that has me lying in a dark room for hours after work, and I wake up with a headache still, I'll just call in sick.

dontforgettofloss · 16/06/2023 07:12

I work in a kitchen for one job, and outside for my other job- both are extremely hot, and it just drains the life out of me.
I drink plenty of water, but it doesn't help Sad
