Your impression of Finland and Finnish men as a UK woman?

What is your impression of Finland and Finnish men as a UK woman (compared to UK men)? Has someone in your family/social circle either befriended or married a Finn and how did that turn out? I suppose Finnish Millenials (and largely continental European Millenials) are capable of conversing at a near-fluent level due to the prevalance and influence of Anglosphere media.

I met a Finnish man years ago at NCT with his wife.

nice couple, pretty conservative (aka very grown up).

why the question? You met someone?

AlligatorPsychopath · 15/06/2023 17:51

I think the average UK woman thinks about Finland and Finnish men not at all.

BillyNoM8s · 15/06/2023 17:52

Until now, I've never given it a second thought. Now that I have, I still don't have an opinion.

User9779 · 15/06/2023 17:53

Seriously obsessed with saunas.

User9779 · 15/06/2023 17:54

The language is supposed to be fiendishly difficult to learn.

GulesMeansRed · 15/06/2023 17:55

I used to work with a girl from Finland. Lovely, when you got to know her. She said that as a nation they are very introverted and hard to get to know.

NowZeusHasLainWithLeda · 15/06/2023 17:55

Is this an AI question? Are you a Finnish bot?

Kitcaterpillar · 15/06/2023 17:56

Curious fish men.

(This question is a new low for ChatGPT, surely)

Livinginaclock · 15/06/2023 17:56

Kimi Raikkonen, I'd go there!

catsnore · 15/06/2023 17:59

My auntie married a Finn many years ago. They ended in divorce. My cousin is Finnish and a recovering alcoholic.

I've never been there but would love to visit Moominland 😂

PickAChew · 15/06/2023 17:59

The only Finnish men I know of are on TV in Suurmestari (their Taskmaster) and a few grim dramas. I think that as a nation they tend to be quite restrained.

ThreeRingCircus · 15/06/2023 18:01

Reserved and introverted.

CantankerousCrab · 15/06/2023 18:01

Ah, I was thinking about moving to Finland (not that I’d have anything personal against the UK).

I know a Finnish couple, lovely considerate people they seem. Mind seem stereotypical but I know them from going to a sauna!

SallySailor · 15/06/2023 18:01

Mad rockers in Eurovision 😜

🤣
Is this the AI equivalent of trying to find a Google Whack?

Saisong · 15/06/2023 18:04

Ismo, who whilst being very funny, probably uses it as a cover for a very dark side (I imagine)

WetBandits · 15/06/2023 18:05

I had a Finnish lecturer 🙂 he was ace!

HeckinBamboozled · 15/06/2023 18:06

Quiet. Really, really quiet.

User9779 · 15/06/2023 17:53

Seriously obsessed with saunas.

I’m slightly uncomfortable with the culture of ”social nudity” in German-speaking countries, Scandinavia and Finland (esp. in Saunas). Must be the Puritan influence.

Based on the Finns I've met I'd say honest, down to earth, decent, hardworking, with sisu mentality. I would honestly love to move to Finland, it's a great place. The summer time is wonderful, such beautiful nature, berry picking, swimming in lakes, sauna of course. Winter is probably very difficult to get through psychologically.

Dotgat · 15/06/2023 18:22

We spent a few weeks travelling around Finland a couple of years ago. We were mostly in rural northern areas and definitely found it a standoffish culture, quite introverted and dry, but may be because we were tourists so didn't feel very welcome. Lots of hunting, hard drinking and very conservative, but no idea what it would be like in urban centres.

Chewbecca · 15/06/2023 18:23

When you say German speaking countries... Isn't it just Germany?

Chewbecca · 15/06/2023 18:24

Oh, I have just engaged brain and remembered Switzerland and Austria! Ignore me please!
