Kids taking antibiotics

Help help help help help help help 😂

My kid needs to take antibiotics for a chest infection; (she's 10): OH MY GOD what a drama!! Every single time she takes it she's sick, doesn't even swallow it just spits it right out and then starts retching until she's sick. How do I get her to take it as she's completely refusing now? I've tried bribery 😂 taking a drink straight after. How do I get her to take them??

Can she swallow capsules? If so, forget the disgusting liquids and ask for a prescription of it in capsule/tablet form - my 11 year old just had a course of antibiotics like this. Painless.

If not, start practising for next time. We used petit pois at first, then a daily little vitamin pill. Then all good next time she needed paracetamol as she could take a pill, no Calpol needed.

She's 10. Have a conversation, which is less bad in her view - liquid or tablets. If she hates the liquid but doesn't know how to do tablets yet, then promise to teach her either now or when she's well for next time. Let her pick liquid or tablets. But ultimately if she's not going to take the medicine she needs, there will need to be consequences - lack of electronics until she does etc
This isn't a two year old who doesn't understand or who you can disguise it with.

Ask for tablets. Teach her how to take them. Use coke if necessary. I did this for a couple of days and by day 3 DC was managing to swallow them with water no probs. It's a skill to learn. Yes it's hard at first but so much easier.

If you have a syringe and put it at the side of her cheek and put most of the syringe in It misses the tongue and goes straight down the throat. If not as op said tablets

Some Anti bios are disgusting and some don't taste too bad .... if it's banana amoxicillin and she hates bananas it will be bad.

Liquid medicine sweet straight after she has swallowed

However now I go for tablets / capsules with all my children .... so I'd go back to the Gp if it's a yucky bitter one .....

Good luck
